Weird car lock incident on by Blazer

I've been driving the same style Blazers since I think 94. Never had a problem with the locks freezing. Today , I went out and after easily unlocking and opening the door , it wouldn't close. This latch thing was across the slot where it engages the dorr frame. I couldn't get it to move and wasn't sure how the damned thiong worked. I then went to the other door so I could see what normal looked like, Opened that door and it did the same thing. I could not close it!

After wasting some time , I pulled the truck into the sunshine and then went inside and did an internet search. Sure enough , there were several cases of the same thing happening. Some guys said take off the interior to get at some thing inside to release it , etc , etc. One guy posted to just hold the handle up on the outside and flip the door lock switch inside then just move the latch mechanism out of the way with your finger. I did it to both doors and it worked perfect.

hard to believe something new would happen that I hadn't seen in what , 17 years of ownership.
