Painting baitfish on the bottom of your boat
I am having a squid stencil made up so I can paint a school of squid (using bottom anti-foul bait) over the general anti-foul paint that is on there. I am thinking of making the squid black or white or maybe glow. (bottom is light green) Someplace use to sell bottom stickers for hull bottoms but I think this bottom paint thing will look cool and hopefully act as a giant teaser. Not sure it will work but what have I got to loose? Can get the kids to paint some eyes on them
I am not 100% sure i will use the squid and I will probably have a bait fish shape made up too.
I am just getting started with this...
Have any of you guys see or heard of others doing this? I have a guy who is going to give me a quote to make the stencils as I could not find a shop who carries stock ones in the size I need. Any leads?

I know of one popular New Jersey charter boat that does it. A few of the Chatham guys do it also. Can't hurt.

I saw a boat in FL that had stickers of squid on the bottom (no paint on his boat) and I was just thinking that looks like it might really help and what if I painted them with a template of sorts.
Break out the airbrush... turn the boat into a 32' teaser. I wonder if a fish would crash on the hull?

Tunanut out of falmouth did this. Spends a lot of time out at the canyon. When I see him I'll ask him whether it made any difference.

On second thought, you might reconsider and paint $ signs on the bottom. That way Neptune will think you paid your dues and leave you alone.

I did it 4 or 5 seasons ago.
Black bottom with white squid stencils. I also have a fish stencil that looked a little like a bonito.
Covered the hull and keel with a big diamond school of squid, with a few of the bonitos thrown in here and there.
I've got some pictures around somewhere, I'll try to find them.
Can't say the bite rate went up, but it didn't hurt either.

I've seen stickers on boats from Florida, they was stuck head to the middle of the fish and the rest was unstuck. Can't see how the tails would move with the boat in the water?

The question is which way do ya point them
When you find out the tuna are feeding on halfbeaks instead of squid you can pull the boat for a day and get out another stensil.
......this winter just got too long for you Sandman, your thinking too much......

A-lot of guys from the Vineyard in the Pink Squid Club used to do this. I can't say that it increased any hook-up rates though. Like everyone said, can't hurt.

I don't know Steve.
Take a ride through GH and see how many boats down there have them
Don't think it can hurt, not saying I'm going to do it though. Wish I had extra time on my hands

I did it for a couple of seasons, I don't think it helped or hurt. Too much of a PITA these days. White squid on black bottom paint. A friend made the setencil out of heavy cardboard.

I like the flashy silver suggestion. I think it's a great idea.
