Rav,
What do you like so much about the pices moon? Either way, I'm happy to hear you are so optimistic about the first day of my annual trip to the canal!

Raven: you are right in that it was PRIME time out at the canyons this weekend. I'm sure there will be a whole separate post on our (7 of us) trip that just finished.

Been on vacation on Cape Ann. Fishing pre dawn last 3 mornings. I lost 1 bass Sunday, and 1 caught 1 20 pounder (fought just like the fish I lost) yesterday. Skunked today. Moon did not set this AM until sun came up (yesterday it set earlier). So bright at 4:30AM I could read the logo on my dry top as I headed out. Only good thing about fishing around the full moon is if I do not catch I can say "it was too bright". Big fan of new moon or clouds and fog. But the mornings have been beautiful.

Moon was so bright last night ( this morning) I could see crabs walking on the bottom...it didn't bother the fish... mixed schools of fish from rats to fish in the low 30's ( lbs not inches) fed for over 3 hours as they worked their way into the tide following pods of herring drops along the beach... by high tide they had worked 3 miles south... this is one of my favorite moons, only trumped by the Strawberry moon....

actually Rob,
i should have Titled the thread as Moon in pisces instead of pisces moon
the next new moon
on the 27th (and 28th)
the moon is in the sign of Libra
deemed to be semi fruitful
so if ya want to call it the Libra moon
(after that it jumps into scorpio...29th ,30th)
thats up to you...
but as Rockfish9 just mentioned
there are local names for the full moon
that designate .........seasonal changes

Good stuff Raven! Although last night I was referring to it as the
"F---ing Moon".

I have had great luck in fresh water on the full moons but not so much in the salt. Its great to be out in the night light but fishing is lacking too often. The "F'ing moon" phrase has slipped through my lips many times.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people curse a full moon but these same people will fish during the day... mind blowing..the more people that stay home on a full moon the happier I am.

Rock,
That is the usual perspective of the boat fishing community on the topic of bright moons. Not sure but I think you’re part of that group? Bright moons “potentially” have a much more detrimental effect on the surf caster.

let me be clear on something.... I fish water shallower than most surf men do...all of the fish ( some pushing the 40lb mark) we caught tuesday night were tight to the sand.. in less than 2'of water... as i stated, we could watch the crabs crawl along the bottom ...if the shallow water alarm ( set @ 2") is not yapping at me.. I'm too deep!..... at one point I had to stop trolling the beach ( casting into the suds) because two surfmen had rods spiked with their lines angling out beyond the fish.. had I wanted to be a dXXX i could have slid under their lines and yanked fish out from benieth them. instead.. I used the electric motor to drive out to deep water to get around them and continue on my way.. for the record... last weekend when the surf was up.. I fished the same area from the surf because i can't get the boat in tight enough when it's hilly.. Bruce knows what I'm talking about...I use the boat because the tide is very late.. the fish have been showing the last 3 hours of the incoming and it's a long walk and I have to work the next day.. as it is my head hit the pillow at 2:45.. the alarm for work goes off at 6:00... using the boat gives me more time to fish...the boat is simply a tool.. just like my waders or Korkers.. I use what best suits my situation... my ONLY advantage is covering more ground and getting a little more time on the water.... and in the end.. that's all I can ask for...
It's an old myth that has lived far too long... 11 of my 15 fish 50lb or better ALL have been taken on or within 2 days of the full moon... that includes a 58lb fish from head of the meadow beach in Trurro in October of '87 and a 54lb fish earlier the same year taken off of the rocks at boars head in new hampshire.. BTW.. both those fish were taken on plugs under a jillion candel power full moon... there's nothing mystical or secret about it... you just need to believe... i believe in results...so, I dont sleep much on a full moon.
this is more information than I've given out in some time.. time for me to stop yapping and get back to work...
