Made this table for a new ZeeBaas Reel

I made sweet deal with my sister... I make her a Tiger Maple Butler's table and she buys me a Black ZB X27RS. It think we both got a sweet deal. The table stays in the family and hopefully gets used for several generations and the reel gets used by me then handed down to my son.

Plus I got a lot of enjoyment building a special table out of some amazing wood.

Blond,
Really nice! Question: What is the purpose of the openings in the leaves?

The openings are handles.. the table design goes back to England when the top would be carried by the butler to bring breakfast and multiple base/leg units would be set up around the house

I did not keep track since WW is a hobby for me and not a job but I would guestimate about 25 hours... a lot of sanding and about 6 coats of general finishes Oil/Pol to bring out the incredible grain

Interesting - maybe if you serve breakfast on it to your sister she'll fill the ZeeBass with braid?

You out did yourself on this one Chris! my favorite wood tiger maple, nothing like it. With some age that grain is going to really pop. I think your sister in law owes you a custom rod for the ZB for her table

Yes... the grain is highlighted with some anilene stain that goes into the curly grain pattern... plus the photo was with a flash so it really pops the grain.... it is tiger maple... commonly called fiddleback maple since it is used on the back sound panel on top quality fiddles.

I am a stickler when it comes to furniture fit and finish... ... plenty of hand chiseled recesses for those brass hinges ... basic mortise and tenon joints... to give the best gluing surfaces for long lasting joints

I think we both got great deals... every time I visit her in Boston I will get to enjoy the table again... plus she is a great cook!

She got a great deal.... I know what went into that piece. Always nice to work with top grade materials too!

Beautiful work Chris. My old man has a similar table and I've always had a "thing" for that design. Enjoy the ZB....it's going to be hard to fish with anything else after a bit!
