Big plugs and Braid #test

For those of you who throw big plugs, I mean 4 oz and up. I've always topped out at about 3 oz as here it hasn't been nessessary, this year though i got some big stuff, and I was wondering if maybe i should step up teh strength of my braid. I am currently using 40lb samurai and 30lb fireline

I can't see why you'd need to upsize the braid due to plug size. other reasons, yes, but not plug size.

I use 55# Samurai spinning and #30 Fireline conventional and never gave it a second thought. If there are no obstructions (and you protect your finger) I don't see why #40 wouldn't work. Just curious, what rod are you using to throw such big stuff?

I know Gary from GRS throws 30lb fireline so can't see it being an issue

30# Fireline? You could use that to moor the Queen Mary.

I think the actual break strength of that stuff is close to 70#.

There are two kinds of line that I've never managed to break off on a fish, or have break before the leader when I've snagged. One is 30# Fireline, and the other is 50# Cortland Master Braid.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

it broke at 75.2lbs on the testing machine, numerous times at the saltwater edge surf night.

All the other braids broke at their listed lb rating or very close to it
