Air Flo- Cold Salt Water
For the last few years I’ve been using Air Flo Cold Saltwater Intermediate line. I wade estuaries, beaches and the occasional flat. The line is the best I’ve used. Tangles have been a problem with other lines but not so much with the Air Flo. The line I used in previous years is blue. This year I was able to find a clear version and it is as tangle free as the blue….good stuff and I have no financial interest.

is this the same stuff as the airflo "Ridged" intermediate which is blue? if so I have 3 spools of it in 9 weight and me like 2 other guys who fish out of the den all have had problems with it not tangling but sticking together by the sides when casting??? we think its the ridges holding together somewhow in the basket but it doesnt happenm with SA and Rio (they do tangle if i don't stretch them first)
I can bring one of these reels and demonstrate whats its doing at the sunken jettie in Plymouth, tonight around 8pm until 10 if someone can show me how to correct it..
I really liked airflow until I used this ridged intermediate line, but if what your describing is a non-ridged line I'm very interested in trying it as I have no beef with the quality of the company itself,.
edited--> I fished last night 5/16 and this thread made me want to try this line again, and now I wonder...... okay after every time out fishing in the salts I wash everything including my lines which I pull out off the spool up to the backing and clean and rinse off every line,,, keeping this in Mind when i took the ridged line last night the first 21 complete casts all fed out great through the eyes,, the 23rd cast I started getting that side sticking thing again, not a tangle but picture 2' of line laying sideways agains the running line coming up the reel and where the end of the 2' of line where it forms a loop then hangs back down into the stripping basket,,, this is whats happening?? I was using surf candies and 2/0 decievers..
do you guys think the line is twisting on me, next time this happens I will remove the fly and cast the whole line and pinch it tight while reeling it in to un-twist the line and see if it works,,, could be a flaw in my casting,,, who knows I'm self taught and I have the bad habit of havign too much line out when I do my last haul.

Tajue,
The Air Flo lines I have are not the Ridge line. The point I was attempting to make is that Air Flo Cold Saltwater has for me been the most tangle free line I've used. It still tangles but just not as much as the other lines. I fish from the beach most often in Scituate and Sandwich. Picked up 5 schoolies in Scituate this evening.

It is possible if you are using a one handed strip retrieve you are inducing some kind of twisting to the line in the basket. Particularly if the first couple of dozen casts seem ok. Try a two handed retrieve with the reel tucked under your armpit and see if it eliminates the twisting. One bad habit I have is leaving my strung up rods in the car which gets quite warm during the day. The older Airflos I use tend to get "tacky" and stick together. this I consider to be my fault not he line's.

bucko, in scituate do you fish that jetti at the lighthouse? I need to get over there again I did pretty good there when I Lived in Weymouth..
but I know the line is great just can't figure it out,, I do retrieve 2 handed 95% of the time in saltwater, with the reel under my arm but who knows I'm not really doing that little wrist twist thing that lefty says to do after your final haul so maybe the fly is spinning in the air. I do like airflo lines it was the line I started with and caught my first keeper on.
I am self taught and I do have bad days sometimes, I will never accuse the equipment unless it litterly failed,, I usually go into investigation mode and unless I find stacked bad reviews I try to find the solution to the problem.
bucko, let me know when you'll be down there again if you don't mind I'll join ya! I'll even bring the airflo, or fish the point at plymouth beach I have a sticker to drive pretty much the entire way with maybe a 3/8 mile hike-n-fish walk to the point where the boulders are near the channel,,, with the sun out this is flats type sight fishing for a ways before it drops.

Never had any issue with Airflo lines. I really like the 40+. I've had much more issue with my Rio lines tangling on me.
