Need cell phone input

Time to upgrade. ATT. Current phone is Samsung Rugby flip phone. Second one I have had, so it has held up on job sites. I use it primarily as a phone, but am forced to text with the kids It is a challenge on this platform. No experience with smart phones or apps, but it looks like I am going down that path..... Just not going to be an electronic appendage that I "need" 24/7.
So what do you have, like, dislike, or recommend. Thanks

I would recommend a Samsung S3. As much as I would like to describe the features it would be best to Google this phone to obtain the specifications.
If you want simplicity for only texting and only CALLS, then there are other choices similar to your present phone where you don't have to worry about cost or accidentally damage for they are inexpensive to replace. I went from a blackberry to the S3 and turned my head away from the iPhone as an alternate choice.

X's 2.

My advice would be to put it in a case and not let Sea Dangles anywhere near the case.

Just got my first smartphone after years of having my upgrade annexed by my kids. iphone 4S. I like it after 1 week of playing with it. Some cool apps that will come in handy for boating too Ross including a live radar app as well as marine forecasts. Plus I can put it inside my fusion unit and listen to Groundation radio on Pandora. I have to admit my sons Samsung galaxy HD droid kills it though.

I hope you don't break your case trying to open it.
Give me a call if you need advice on some of the more obscure apps that you can hide so your kids and wife don't mistakenly open them.

iPhone 4S if you have at n t you should be grandfathered in to an unlimited data plan.

Get a lifeproof case for it. There 60 to 80 bucks for the case, but lightweight, water, dust and drop proof.

I even ran mine thru the dishwasher in the restaurant with the video camera on, water is 140 to 175 degrees.

Stick with the flip phone with just voice and text. All the rest of the stuff just clutters up the phone and makes it a PITA. Try a prepaid Net10 Flip phone. Usually they have some deals where you get a phone plus a months unlimited service for $30. If you don't like it well get a different one. If you like it you can stay on inlimited or switch to a minutes/days plan and its the least expensive route and will do voice and text and not butt dial and no accidental browser bull. At one point I had a deal for the Phone , 6 months service and 1500 minutes for $100. I now have a full feature smart phone with Tracphone. 1 year/1200 minutes , $100. Obviously I don't use the cell phone all day every day like some people. I use about 60-90 minutes a month. I like the deal with Tracphone but I hate the smart phone that came with it. Some Samsung do everything. . Was actually butt dialing 911 on me!!! I had to get a case to stop the butt dialing. Anyway , I traded in my flip phone (I had flip phones for over 20 years and loved them) for a full featured do everything phone and I hate the thing. After my plan runs out about next Sept , I'm back to a no frills flip phone.

I am an electrician a simple purchase of a life proof case and then you don't have to deal with lousy battery life, issues with operating system etc. I will never own another PC for home use either. I was a non apple guy prior to this phone. I thought they were hipster geek fodder no they are good for everyone.

The iPhone battery can not be removed whereas other phones give you the option to add a newly charged battery. I don't have a need for an extra battery for the Galaxy S3 for it has a energy saving mode. The battery is one example of apple restricting the user with choices from altering and customizing the phone.

I dont have any problems with my Commando, except the battery life. You can tweek what's running with several different apps. I've actually written some droid apps to fool around with. I am not doing that with the IPhone, it's a lock in that I don't wish to partake of

Nokia Lumia 920! There is a third horse in the mobile OS race... WP8. Since it's your first smartphone, you can throw away one of the arguments that I usually hear against it; that one doesn't want to have to get used to something new. You are not used to anything yet. It's a real solid phone (google Nokia drop test, try that with yer fruit fone...)
If you use your phone as your main fishing camera, well, let me just say there is no other camera like the one on the 920, especially in low light (ie. Fishing conditions). Don't be swayed just by specs, anything running Android needs all the processing power it can pack in to stand out the n the market. WP8 is cleaner and more efficient, and less of a strain on resources.

Sandman, if you leave apple, you won't be able to keep your apps. Some may be available to android, but you will have to buy them again.

If you have the iphone, and want to conserve battery life during the day, go to the home screen, then hit the home button twice, the app icons on the bottom are all of the programs that are still running. Hold down on the screen till the - in a circle shows up then hit the - in a circle for every program to shut it down and conserve battery.. I do this a couple of times a day.

We have an AT&T family plan, it was $10 more to add a phone and $30 (both per month) for 3G of data, I have not come close to hitting that limit. I got the iPhone4S and so far (one month) no complaints, and the camera is pissa. I wanted a smart phone with a good mp3 and good camera, I think I got one. I do like cafe latte's now and never wanted one before. I think T-mobile is the best non commit plan out there.

Taxes and fees my iPhone plan comes to 120, unlimited data, email, 900 minutes, free at n t to at n t calls.

I use it for 95 percent of my Internet usage, almost never use my home computer.

Do all my work and personal emails on it.

I use it for everything.

Love my eBay app.

That's what I had. Make the call and drop your 900 minutes. My bill went from the $120 plus to $80. With FREE mobile to mobile any network. And free N&W. Includes the same data plan and ul texts. Plus rollover. You probably have the plan that I had before I called. I couldn't believe it. Same chit $40 bucks less. And I use it for business and personal without going over my minutes or data.
