stupid, stupid, stupid... that's me.
i had to take my reel apart on the rocks, everything went fine. take a cast... the feel and sound of a knot.. then a big splash at my feet right in front of the rock... forgot to the back screw on the handle.. which is now just far enough out of my reach, in water just churned up enough to not be able to see... gotta wait for the tide to go out or my season is on hold...
sooooo stupid....
you think i'd give up on this hobby by now. lol.

Yo Ryan what's goin on, how ya been? Long time no see. I recovered the handle. Luckily it i fell onto a solid piece of rock that sloped towards shore, so the tide didn't bring it out. I felt so dumb sitting on that rock for an hour waiting for the level to get low enough to reach it.

My back up rod has gone magically missing, while I wasn't fishing. No idea what happened to it.

speed bumps are like mountains to me right now, cause my muffler is hanging on by a thread.. i bottom out on every one of them...

calling yourself "stupid" is a bad idea... because eventually you'll believe it.
repeat this... I am getting smarter every day, every hour ,and every minute.
say it out loud to yourself like it's important

i dunno raven... stripping down a real in the dark with no light was pretty stupid. i knew it at the time. had to be done. but not putting the screw back on the handle after some how pulling that off, and dropping it in the water... pretttty stupid. lol.

I lost a GLoomis while getting my GF rigged up for bottom fishing for scup while on vacation. I went back with fins and snorkel the next day at low tide and still couldn't get down deep enough to see bottom. Had that rod for 10 years. My father bought it for me as well as one for himself. Talk about feeling stupid. As good as it is, I don't think GLoomis' warranty covers that sort of thing  |

My brother when he was a little kid became preoccupied with something other than his baited rod. When he did pay attention the rod was no longer in the sand spike. Fish dragged it off. He went back at low tide in the morning and followed the drag mark in the sand to where the rod stopped. Pick up the rod and started rreeling ang the fish was still on the hook a couple of tidal pools away

Haha great story swimmer!
I had another reel mishap when I was much younger. My first striper rod, was just a beefed up fresh water rod I used for landing all those lunker largemouth I was a pro at catching... anyway it wasn't a great rod. More of a back up, cause I preferred smaller lighter rods, and all my good stuff was witty bitty at the the time... anyway, the reel seat on it wasn't all that great and constantly came lose. One evening I took a cast off of a small jetty, and sure enough the reel went flying off into the water. I was so upset, cause it effectively ended my season that year in mid July. I end up going back at low tide the next day, because low tide was too late that night. I did find the reel, but it had already begun to rust.. I never bought a discount reel again...
I just have no luck with reels. Between dropping them, or pieces of them in the ocean, falling on and breaking a brand new Penn, or just having them malfunction on me. No amount of washing and lubing seems to make them last any longer for me... next reel I'll buy will be a VS.. if break that.. the next reel after that will be of a very disposable price..

MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO NOT BUY A VS!!! You will kill yourself when you drop it off a rock into 30' of water. ...and you know with your luck it's gonna happen  |
