We have always had over-wintering fish.
It's that we just don't get out to fish for them when it's below freezing out.
Remember that there are fish caught in the Thames in RI, so it's not that far fetched to presume they aren't holding over elsewhere.
Heck, they've found spawning bass in local rivers over the past 5-10 years, so holding over isn't impossible to consider.
NOW catching a holdover KEEPER is another thing......

I would think that Hudson fish would be slow to migrate, so long as there is bait around.

There is always a few good ones that stick around. I landed one above 35# on a popper in April a few years ago. Some of my buddies said it was a fresh one but I got it in a well known hold over spot. I think it was a holdover????

No. Because the fed printed so much money, the economic index for striped-bass this weekend is poor.

Nebe caught a 30# fish years ago in January. Tony Palliotti caught a 38# bass one Feb in Potters Pond. Now those fish were definite holder overs.
