Looks like a $40 increase in price, the reel is sweet and the improvements are for the better. You can see the difference in the line lay in the photo ( increase in casting distance also) but wait till you feel the drag!! smooth and linear

Probably a bailess VM series or a heavy offshore reel at cost under the original VS series.

I'm betting there will be a lot of the old ones in the classifieds. The two things I don't like about the VS are the line lay and the "twitchy" drag. Seems to take more pressure to get it moving than it's set for…

Looks like the finish is better too.

X2 on the drag I feel like there is such a fine point on setting the drag on the lighter side where I don't know if the drag knob is going to fall in drink

Sorry, but gloss black for now. Also the drag knob has a detent clicker. They will be released in the following order 200, 250 and then the 150. The other models including the VSB's will also join the X-Series in the future.

it's a flat or matte black finish, I got to play with them a couple of weeks ago and loved everything about them, a few nice improvements on an already great reel, the difference in the line lay is profound if you are familiar with the spools.... detents on the drag knob should help save some knobs from the drink and make adjusting irt feel easier, i'm pretty sure the threading changed as well...the finish reminded of the very early VS models so maybe a little retro look too....the improvements should satisfy the folks that found these things troublesome...casting distance felt improved with a neater line lay which makes sense

Is the new line up going to be replacing the existing line of regular VS's? I don't find the line lay or drag to be real issues with the current design. Seems like a 40 price increase is in line with the improvements. After they are put through their paces i may consider a 150, but like someone else said there will be plenty of old ones for sale.

Everything is better on the rocks.

I agree, those things have never bothered me either, but they are certainly being improved on the new reel...they are being phased in over time by model as mentioned previously...gotta keep it fresh and current in this business, they've done a nice job with these

Interesting and good they are continuing to improve ... although I certainly hope that VS gets its supply chain together, at least for these reels ...

... not to hijack this thread on something negative but curious if anyone else has experienced the same ...

... I ordered an extra spool for my 250 at the end of March, didn't give it much thought until May started approaching - not something I really need - but the shop has been pushing VS aggressively since early May and I am still #26 on the list for the next spool to come out.

As I stated before it will be in "gloss black" , the matte finish is on hold for now.

Badazz. I mean, I love my vs reels, but if they want to improve on an already stellar piece of hardware, so be it. I know what I'm doing with all the change I've saved up.

About time. My VS' s are half as smooth as my ZeeBaas...maybe that's why I sold all but one.

My kid just got one to test, his is matte black. The line lay is nice, real nice. The drag is completely different too, looks better sealed too.Good improvements although I don't really know anyone who had a problem with old line lay, just didn't look right.

Here is a little more info on the X-Series and the possibility of upgrading your current model VS. It is being considered but will probably be next year and will have to be done through a VS service center (a precision modification has to be done) and upgrading the drag will entail buying a new spool, knob and spool shaft.

That's great news. I'm in. So River's End will be able to do the mod?
