Hard to believe

This time last year we were talking about an early start.

I saw that, as if one more degree of cold could stop the wave midway and for once, you could shovel sand against the tide.

I don't remember an early start last year - it was also a very cold winter that lasted through much of April. Granted not as much snow. If we get a normal spring this year things will be fine. I see temps increasing into the 30s next week - that will feel like a heat wave.

1st time I've seen my part of LIS frozen. Last week while walking on the beach I watched a woman have to go in to her knees to rescue her little mutt that she let walk on the slush. Idiot.

I remember as a kid, the cove in our town that opened up to Western Long Island Sound would freeze over so that we could walk across it.

Last time Buzzards Bay froze over we had a pretty nice fishing season. At least from my recollection.

I received a college baseball schedule this weekend for Salve Regina in Newport. Heavy with games from mid-March through mid-April - I can't imagine the snow pack we have in New England will disappear within the next 6 weeks, even so the mud season will be significant. This will really impact high school and college spring sports.

Beautiful out this morning. Shoveled as much as could here and at my folks' house. Stayed outside as long as I could just cleaning up. I'll take the sun!

You may have been thinking about an early start last year but it was just the opposite.
