Well we will be staying one more week and will be home Sat the 26th. Ths is a for sure as someone else is taking our spot. Which is fine by as I am ready to come home!! I have been blessed wih nothing but good weather for the month that I have been camping and twice blessed with fish!! I have caught so many Fluke I am tired of them, did I say that

I have been Bassing also but I am not the greastest bass man but I have caught some real nice fish! My son and I were out yesterday and he out fished me

He got one 34# and a 31# I GOT NOTHING!!
We got the fish out in Vinyard sound and on live Scup. I have pic in the camera down to the camp so you will have to wait for the pic.
I have been trying to read all the posts but I have not got that much time. As I am going back soon. But I am glad all is well and you are all getting fish!
Well I will see ya Sat and fill you all in. It does not look good for this week with all the rain that is on the way but we will see. My son has been fishing hard and is my first mate. But he hates churning the winch Handle and said he is buying me a eletric winch for my B_Day Thur.

Well I have been asked what my technique is for Fluke. Well it is not anything anyone else is doing! I use a St.Croix F70M-BK that I coustom made my self. Then I use a braided line like Spiderwire, I tie this to a 3 way with a duo lock for the sinker and then a 28 to 36 inch leader of floro 30# leader.
This is the basic rig but there are some things that change with the tides and other veriables. On a nice reagular day I will use weight up to 6 oz to hold bottom other days or deeper water I may have to go to 10 oz.
On a nice day I like to use bait 6" long or maybe a little more. But when the tide is moving fast I like to shorten up the leader and the bait. the bait being as short as 3" or 4 " This is to get the fish to come up onto the bait in a fast tide. with a long bait they tend to nip at the end of the bait and miss the hook all toghter.
I have a 7 foot Ugly stick med acation spin out fit that i use a 4/0 circle hook on for dead sticking. This has caught me a ton of fish!. I hold the conventional set up in hand with a 3/0 wide gap SS hook.
As for bait, I use Squid to get me started, then I start using Fluke strips, belly or backs or a combanation work great!! I bring some home after a day of fishing and start the next day with them. But when I am off for 3 days I will start with the squid again, till I get some fresh fluke bait.
There you go in a nut shell!! I hope this helps those that need it! I am not a very good righter or speller so I hope it is good anough to understand.
O yea it would help if you new were the fish were! They are ..........

Very ingenious. It's obvious that a lot of thought and experience has gone into developing your setup, approach and of course where you fish. A guy has to keep some secrets. ;-)

Thank you for sharing this with me. I will be giving fluke a shot some time soon. Up until now the only fluke I have caught have been, just that, flukes. Ocassionally they hit trolling plugs when I am downrigging for bass. The good thing is when I do catch them this way they are usually plenty big enough to keep.

I don't no were you fish but I go to Laucas Shoal and Middle ground. it is a bit of a ride to Laucas but if you have nothing better to do this is were to go. the rec. limt is 6 or 7 at 16 1/2
I am there most days.

IMO the key to targeting fluke are working the drop-offs into the deep water from the bar. You need a decent drift...If you are dead sticking (rod in rod holder) try (at the same time) vertical jigging a bucktail laced with a stip of squid off the bottom.

Fish...If you are serious about big ones and are really going to go to the mv area ...pm me, I have some sweet numbers for you, big fish deep water. I would be willing to trade some for your favorite tuna #'s

As a side note - they also like the Ledgerunner 5" Split Tails - not a shameless plug for GS - just my experience when I was chading bass and got Fluke instead

these fish are hungry and will take alot of different things but this is what works for me. I have gotten 2 big fish this year 10 and 11 pounders on live scup!
I have gotten alot of 6 to 8 pounders just doing as I said. And as Sandman said you got to work the drop off and the deep water. I said in a earler post that I had big Fluke on top of 60 feet of water, and in the water coloum early in the morning. I start most days in this spot for a few biggies to start the day!
Like anything putting in your time, at your favorite spot and using different baits till you find what works best for you is the best thing to do.
I go for the $$ so I am there for the 200#'s a day. I get big stuff mostly avarge size fish. But when I get close to the end and the day is still early I try new area 's in deep water and different bait for the big ones also.
With all the Fish I have caught this year (about 2100# Fluke, and 800 # Bass) I still wake up excited for what the next day is going to bring me!! I love to fish and have always wanted to take a whole summer off to do it and Thanks to my job it has happened and I can't be happier!!!!!!!!

My only problem with comm fluke fishing is the size limits (14"?) and some of the methods...inshore trawling....these guys scrape the bottom and wipe out areas of everthing.

comm bass fishing: I've beat that drum enough already.

I've only had my boat for a year so I really haven't developed any locations yet that have really produced. However, I've done a lot of research and can share where I will be spending my time and hope to find them.

I agree with you on the size limt and the inshore dragging!!! I think the rec. guys are taking it hard!! 16 1/2 inch fluke and then only 6 for a limt really sucks!!! All the money they put into the ecomny, and they only get a small amout of the fish and have the least affect on the fishery.

When you say fluke strip from belly or back is that the thin piece of the fillet that covers that area or is it the innards??

It is the fillet that you would eat if you would take it home. Just do it as if at home and then cut into strips about 3/4" wide and as long as you want. White side works best but if you use a piece of each you will have a big bait for big fish

Headin out of Green Harbor, Marshfield, tomorrow. Figure it will be calmer in from there south than most places. Any of you flukin experts have any suggestions for spots I can try these techniques at around that area and south?

never been out of there. But I bet you start driffting over some drop offs you will find them.
