Ok - not "really" a movie, but just heard of this from a buddy. Band of Brothers , to me, is the greatest war flick ever and really a life changing experience. As the son of a marine, I grew up knowing about Iwo Jima and WWII Island hopping, I dont think anyone ever did the war in the Pacific justice. IMHO, both of Eastwoods (Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo) fell way short. Ok movies, but didnt go far enough. there is some magic or special spirit in being a Marine. I want to see that on film. So I just heard Spielberg and Hanks are doing a a HBO miniseries on the Pacific, about marines. Starts in March, cant wait to see this. I've got high hopes!
I saw a few blogs over the summer basically saying that what Band of Brothers did to show history of the war in Europe, Pacific would do to show the far more brutal Pacific Theater campaigns. I look forward to seeing this.
Can't wait...

Ghost Soldiers is fantastic as well, detailing the Bataan death march. Some of the atrocities the Japanese perpetrated in Bataan make me shudder to think about.

I agree that it is not as good as band of brothers. However, it is far from unwatchable. Much better than the rest of the crap hollywood puts out(hurt locker, the green zone, etc.).
Band of brothers and restrepo are the best 2 war movies made.
Greg, BOB is a mini series and i can not think of another mini series as moving as BOB. Hurt locker and others are just Hollywood crap. Movies like We were soldiers and Jarhead are amazing.
