first post-- a few ?'s
Hey guys, this is my first post here.. love the site.
I'm relatively new to saltwater fishing, I started last year. I spent the majority of last year doing what everyone reccomends, going out and seeing what works..
I've got alot of bullets in my tackle box, but I'm trying to get some more advice..
Everyone is talking about bunker, and I was able to snag a few a couple nights ago, early in the morning around 4 am.. but I was cutting them into chunks.. ended up catching a sea robin, but that was it..
I later learned that I should have been bringing them in, putting a 2/0 trebel through the nose and letting them swim.. you guys agree with that?
I also heard it's too early for eels.. plastic or live.. is there truth to that?
If it's any help, I fish in the milford/new haven area..
I really don't have a decent rod/reel setup yet.. I do most of my fishing from shore.. the guy at the store showed me some quantum reels.. what's the reccomendation from you guys? Thanks for any help !

not too early for eels, I usually start 2nd week of May

def go for the snag first and then eels as a second method. both work great.

Quantum Reels are good, but are fairly sensitive to the sand and don't like to get submerged. You probably want a 60 sized Quantum if you get one. i have a Boca 40 that I use for light tackle and I am extremely happy with it.
It's a little drive, but King Cove Outfitters in Pawcatuck is a sponsor here and can help you out with whatever you need. As the season commences, you'll be headed closer to RI most likely..

you can get eels no problem.
i got my guy less than 1/4 from my house now! gonna get a big bucket of the squirmy ones for friday.

Ask politely at the tackle shops for darker or bigger eels, i picked up a dozen tonight and 10 were small and sand colored. They still work but id imagine they blend in and can hide alot better then the bigguns.
