7/12 Fishing Report

Today's target was was groundfish, and we covered a lot of water, from west of the bank to east, and north to south of the bank tuna of all sizes were busting, but not taking. Well east of the bank, we found a nice tight drift that let us get our fill of cod, get a couple haddock, pollock and cusk, less than half the fish were shorts, so not to bad.
With tuna still busting all around, we tried a big pollock under a balloon, and I was introduced to my first blue shark, I'd never have thought a 30" cod fights better than a 7ft shark, but it does.. All in all , the fishing and weather was great, but the wind did make it a little sloppy for the ride home.

7/16 report

I had my dad and boys out today for their first tuna trip. Fish busting all over the bank small to bigguns. I made a really stupid mistake, the 50 class reel got hit, line was pouring off it with drag maxed out, I thought I could help the drag out by thumbing it ouch that burns, then I get a rag to do the same thing and seconds later SNAP! WHY WHY WHY didn't I chase the fish, duh duh duh!!

Luckily a few minutes later, we got another one, I have it about 5 feet from the boat and I say/yell, "Dad pass me the gaff", he hears "Dad, hit the gas", start end game part 2, but the hook is down deep, cut line, then back to the bay for some swimming.
