Colder Weather vs. Night Fishing
As fall is upon us and the water temps are dropping, do you guys think it is still important to fish at night?

I think the fishing will be more productive (bigger fish while the sun is up) during the day, but night/early morning is still best.

I would definetly state that change of light (dusk/dawn) are VERY good times to be out there. A warm, sunny day can slow a bite in a southern latitude but it does all come down to bait. If it is there, the fish will attack it !
It is still early Fall and that means warmer water beginning to quickly cool so it will likely to be 24 hr. thing (off the shore) before i finish this reply. I am sure up North it is an all day and night affair, now. This weekend is supposed to turn into a southerly flow which will definety warm the air up and make it feel like late summer again.
Boni's and the like are still lurking about here. That means the water is still to their liking.
Last night was another steller outing. Big Bass eating EVERYTHING we threw at them. Live, dead, plastic, rubber. It didn't matter.
Go get em'.

I've gone night fishing in November while it was snowing and have caught fish. Froze my ass off, but caught some fish nonetheless. Mainly because I didn't know better to stay home.

I have not fished into the "late season" in recent years but can remember back in the fifties and early sixties we would meat fish until the bass were gone. Which meant coming back from Squibby and/or the Bridge in North West Snow Squalls some trips.
Boat load of fish, cold but not noticing it due to load of Black Berry Juice and getting in and staying outside till supper was ready because as soon as we warmed up the Black Berry Juice would knock us out! Eat supper and fall asleep on the floor or if lucky, make it into bed. Get up at 0 dark 30 and wolf down some eggs, bacon, bass and coffee and head out to do it again. About every third day have to go to market to sell and then restock supplies, as in more eggs, bacon, coffee, and ah yes, more Black Berry Juice!
When the water temp gets below 54 they are reluctant to stay but if the bait is still here they will stay and eat. A big storm and they could disappear but if there were a couple warm days and bait showed up then another slug would come down the coast and it would be back to catching again.

Rhody night fishing holds up at least until the end of the first week of November but you should time your trip so you are fishing during grey-dawn or twilight.
Right now, the first 2 weeks of October, is a great time to night fish.
