Sunday April 29 Mystery Trip / Ladies Night Out - Rain or Shine

April 29 Mystery Trip / Ladies Night Out (well morning actually but "Ladies Morning Out" sounds wierd):

Meet up at the Sagamore Dunkies at 5 am rain or shine. Don't be late as the early bird gets the fish and we do leave promptly shortly afterward...

The ladies will be running off with Fisherwoman and if we follow, the penalty I'm told, is a slow, painfull and embarrasing death. The guys will be going with Baitcaster in conjunction with the MSBA Mystery Trip (half of us are members anyway)...

The spots will be from Plymouth or Buzzards Bay to various points on the Cape (I don't know exactly where we'll be) but having gone on many of these over the years, I have an idea and it's always a blast.

What to bring:
1. Dry chest height waders. No need for Korkers and the like as it's mostly sandy beach.

2. Casting or spinning schoolie rod, whichever you prefer. Spinning is probably better for tossing the lighter jigs. Some longer casts don't hurt but aren't critical.

3. Bucktail jigs and soft plastics are used and for the most part and recommend fishing teaser rigs too. Most of the water is shallow but there are some spots with a strong current and a little extra weight helps... This is a little early for plugs and poppers but you never know...

4. We would like to condense vehicles at Dunkies as much as possible. Some of the spots have poor parking so minimizing the amount of vehicles is important.

5. Things start off at 5am and generally go on until early afternoon. Some people head back earlier and some people later. There is no set schedule other than meeting at 5...

Please post a flollow-up if you are going or might be going this Sunday morning....

This will be alot of fun and most often, we geet a lot of little fish, Thanks...

Anything to add Fisherwoman?

Maybe...just maybe. Depends on my chore load and the weather. Not to wish the bad weather, but if it's not so great out Sunday, then I will be there, since the garden will be wet. Otherwise, gotta make up for the fishless jaunt to RI I made this past Sunday. Okay, it was a trip for the wife, but it still kept me outta the garden. A little catchin up to do. What time is it? Can I sneak outta work yet? }>

Will be there with telescopic schoolie slayer in hand.

Ya know John, this will be the 4th year of the telescopic bionic blade of death. Its held up pretty well in its role as a school bass rod.

I think Bass Pro shops sells it paired with a ABU C3 for like $80 for the combo.

Count me in, I'm looking forward to a romp on the Cape searching for the mother load...and meeting some more of the striped-bass crowd. Got to start pouring some plastic tonight, but first maybe a quick wade on a local pond for some largemouth to insure the waders aren't leaking.

Schoolie, that makes sense:
$80 combo minus
$75 reel

Yeh, that makes sense for the grown up telescopic snoopy rod to be included in that. Leave it to someone to desiagn the all purpose telescoping rod. It's only 4 feet long in bass mode but can be expanded to 7.5 with a 130 class bent butt Tuna stick. Comfortably throws 1/4 ounces to 22.5 pounds....

Seriously though, is Da Wife going to Ladies night? Gwen can't make it as Liam is not on the bottle yet...

JohnR, that just about covers it. I would also suggest bringing an extra sweat shirt or jacket, if you get too warm you can always take it off. Also remember he who hesitates looses, try not too be late, we will be pulling out by 5:15, remember the tides are against us!!!

Trying to get a head count on how many people are going and how many women, so please let me know. We also have alot of MSBA people coming, and we will need to try and buddy up at DD's if possible.

Cape fishing report as of today!!!!!! Hit the narrows this AM, got my 1st fish of the season on the 2nd cast, got 5 more and Bruce got about 5. THESE FISH HAVE SEA LICE ON THEM!!!! Nice little brighties, biggest one was about 22 inches. Left there and hit a few more spots, only picked up one more fish and then headed back to the narrows to pick up one more. Sooooo, by the weekend if the weather stays the way it is, it should be pretty good, time will tell. Will be scouting a few more times this week, to see were they are really turning on. It will only get better from here on out.

Looking forward to seeing everybody!!!!!! BRING IT ON!!!!!!

As far as lures go, you will not need anything over 1 oz, we will be gishing alot of shallow bays, may hit a few jetties, but right now we throw basically, 4 inch shads on 3/8 oz jig heads, I would bring along a few maybe small swimmers, or metals, and bring a couple light poppers, and some white bukctails with a curly tail on it, as John said you never know.

We start fishing as soon as we can get to the 1st spot, you can stop whenever you want to, nobody is obligated to stay the whole time. This is a fun time and a way to build up some fishing comoraudery (?sp) and maybe learn a few new spots, and hopefully kick some butt out there, so please come if your up for a fun day!!!!!

John, I knew you couldn't resist hackin' on the blade.

I'm not sure if Karen's coming or not, but she would likely stick with me if she fishes. We haven't spent much QT together in the last few weeks. 4am may be a bit early for her as she is per usual, running herself ragged. She'll fish more this year, though our babysitter will be away most of the summer.

I've got an idea... prizes for largest fish caught on a telescopic rod... how about most fish caught on a telescopic rod...

Got the tackle covered I think and after giving the waders a test wade this afternoon, I have a question on clothing. My local pond is up in the high 50's and low 60's in the shallows and therefore I don't where anything under the neoprenes but a lightweight kakis pant. Should I plan on thermals or bunting pants? Are we dealing with cold water or will our actual wading time be not prolonged enough for me to worry about it?

I liked the looks of the extended forecast on channel 5 tonight, Sunday looks to be sunny and 68 degrees...nice. I'm looking forward to the trip, because I'm ready for some serious R&R.

GS, light cotton pants or sweats and you will be just fine. Just bring an extra shirt or jacket, just in case.

Hit the cape again today, was very, very windy and cool. Got 7 more micro's to about 21 inches, 3 double hook ups. But was very slow going, by the end of the week things should be turning on a bit more. The water is warming finally!!!!

FW/ Baitcaster: Congradulations on the first fish. I hear the Big Guy is bringing the big rods to handle those heavy duty South Cape trees.

Slipnot: Nice to meet you at the meeting last week. Glad to hear the truck is working again. You definitaly need a day on the water.

The Bride got permission to fish from the P/T doctor. As long as she doesn't do too much twisting of her back. I guess the doctor doesn't fish.

I got a few largemouths a few weeks ago to get the edge off but I really need a few double headers.

John: See you on Sunday!!!

Looks like it's going to be quite a gathering; maybe we should call a catering company to follow us with the beer and sandwiches...lol. I'm working on two small plano boxes to fit in my shorty wading vest, which is always an interesting time.

It's called getting 10 lbs of **** into a 5 lb bag, but I've gotten quite good at it over the years. Waders seemed to work fine last night at a local pond, so I'm good to go. Weather forecast for Sunday looks great, sunny 70 and not too much wind; but I assume that's great. Maybe you'd prefer drizzle, higher winds out of a certain direction etc. I usually get my one day a week, so I don't usually care what the weather is doing; I just get up and go.

Tight lines.

Well Ladies and Gents...unfortunately, you gotta count me out.
Just got too much to do before I head to Jersey next weekend. The flip side is that from what I've been hearing from down there, my first fish of the year might just be a biggun' . Have great luck and have fun!!
