Seabass combo

Any ideas on a good seabass combo? This is what I think im getting for Xmas....its for the "jumbo seabass" trips on the frances, and maybe it will double as a striper combo but im not worried about that, main purpose is for those big sea-biscuits.

Been looking at the Newell 300 series reels.....first for me, to consider a reel other than Penn....are there any good penn reels for this purpose?
And what about a rod to match up?
i dont know how accurate this is but on the Frances fleet calendar under the extended jumbo seabass trip, it says:

10-16oz. sinkers, 5/0 hooks, 30-50# mono line
So the combo must handle this well. I'll load it up with 50# powerpro, i guess.

vic, they are seabass, you could use a handline.
don't worry so much about having the perfect set up for every scenario. the same combo for fluke will work fine for blackfish which will work for sea bass.

you have to learn to try things out for yourself sometimes. you will be that much better of a fisherman if everything is not handed to you. learn from your mistakes as well as your successes.

o, ok.....but my fluke rod is rated for 8-20# and willarch under a 3oz. sinker.....how can I use a 10+??? And these trips are kind of offshore.....i just wanted to make sure, guess a penn 975 and 20-50# ugly stik custom can do the job then, which is my tog combo. thanks

Better ask about using Powerpro. Some of the charters don't like braid. Some mates are afraid of getting cut.

you do need a havier rod for tog and seabass than for fluke. You could get away with one but most guys have different rods for fluking and for togging.

Star rods are good.
Pretty sure you'll be fishing Cox's Ledge. I think the bass moved out from the East Ground. The Gail Frances likes to drift--we all hate anchoring esp. in 125' of water--if its blowing with the tide, you'll need some lead to hold bottom. But I think 8oz should be good. I did real well with crippled herring early in Nov. Sea Bass are aggresive fish and love jigs; I wouldn't leave home without them.

thanks for the help guys. i tied my rigs with 50# big game, 3 dropper loops with 5/0 gami octopus, and a loop at the botom for a sinker....then, tied another rig for the jig with one dropper loop for a small B2 glow squid teaser....

picked up two 8oz. bridgeport diamond jigs, the rest will be bait if I lose them.

how do u guys think my tog combo will do? instead of me buying another combo:

Penn 975 on 6'6 Ugly Stik custom 20-50#, 65# Powerpro...

yea the frances fleet seems not to mind powerpro though, im glad of that, its on all my rigs.
