that's very common for that price. If you got people bidding, then the price goes higher. People there must have enough money to spend on.

there was a squidder recently on eBay that was supposedly owned by part of the original penn owners. it sold for close to $200 i think. i wonder what the NIB 145's i have would draw now.......

I've bought some nice reels for good prices. A mint squidder with green swirly handle for $35. An Ocean City Inductor, unused for 50. You have to watch out. don't bid on anything with fuzzy or small pictures. I bought a "mint" Inductor that was so corroded it wouldn't turn.. I got my money back. If the pictures look good, set your price . Sometimes you win the auction with a reasonable bid . Especially if the auction ends at an oddball time like 3 A.M. on a wednesday

Some guys might be willing to pay a premium to get the two plastic spools.

That deep red color came out in the early 60s and lasted to the mid 80s, when they went to a brighter red.

Hey what model of the inductor did you get I have a bunch of these (the 250*s )Got one new in box but had to re-epoxy the mag plate to the side of the spool and even one with the factory left hand conversion. Also a couple of the 255*s(with the level wind) but I know they also made a 249 and havent seen one Yet. That squidder looked like a black one(but could have been the picture) which should have been in an earlier green box with the lable on the end.Black was the original color.I have them in the early black with plastic spools and both shades of the red.I even bought a two speed side mount transmission set up that gives the squidder a 15:1 gear ratio in high and still has a 3:1 in low. I dont know what it was used for but doubled the weight of the reel and sticks out an exta two inches on the handle side.They must have some fast fish on the West coast and muscles in crap to cast with that thing on there after the first half hour.suppose it would be better as trolling but then what would the point of buying a squidder.

see they pump the price up and if they get stuck ,its no worrys a small portion goes to ebay. and then they get positive feed back

I had this happen on a vom hofe quite awhile ago it turned out to be a Montaque that was marked sold by vom hofe in there early 1900*s catalog. When i went back and started checking it was the guys wife that was bidding against me to drive up the price so I just returned the reel and told him I knew what was going on.If you can prove thats whats happening report them and they will be suspended or thrown off

There's a couple of reasons I think that's the deep red. The handle knob color is from late 60s/early 70s (but it could have been replaced from the original handle), and the early black plastic spools didn't have a flat flange, or "bell" on them---you had to thumb the side of the spool when you cast. Those spools in the pic have a distinct flat bell. They may have changed the black ones in the last years of original black, tho---my black plastic spools are from the 1940s.

I will have to look --Yup the black ones come both ways with and without the flat spot on end.I probably have 25/30 of these as extras in various colors and with full and some trimmed down casting vanes on the inside.Only problem is these tend to crack if mono wound to tight on them.I liked the way these casted over the aluminum and the stainless was way heavy tending to over run or backlash when casting.I even have some old easy-cast setups that bolted on to stop backlash and claimed you didnt have to thumb spool at all but I never tried.I even have the last squidder that was old out of service merchandise in stoughton when they shut down their fishing department.Box is marked as for display reel.Had the aluminum spool.I also have picked up a couple of the spools Newell used to make for these when he was improving Penn reels.I have one of the 200*S that has all his improvments.The squidder is a good real and If I could only get a newell drive set-up to get a better gear ratio.The 3:1 is so slow for the canal.Penn was supposed to make a 4:1 improvment about 10 years ago but i never saw it materialize.I had switched to the 980 to get the 4:1 back in the early 80*s and still use one for chunking.

A couple years back I picked up some new 7500 Big Games from for $90. They were being discontinued and some big California sporting goods joint was dumping their inventory. Told weewee about it and he scarfed the rest up fo the "Buy it Now" price of I think 117. Still a good bargain.

Fly fish stuff is crazy though. Been looking for a 5 and a 7 for a while but everything I want goes too high.
