Herring Permit - YES!
As you may or may not know, the town of Middleboro switched from a first-come/first-serve permit system to a lottery system.
I applied and I did not win the lottery - but my wife did!
YES!!

Your lucky. I don't live in Middleboro , but my 3 brother in laws do, They are residents, and get me herring. If I catch a bass, I bring it to my mother in laws place (sometimes) for a nice cookout.

i got my "i'm a winner" notice yesterday but my buddy didn't get one...first time since they went to permits in '95 that he won't have a permit this year...
since they won't let you in the water this year, i wonder what time the line will start forming for the spot at the corner of the falls...my guess is 3am for the 5am opening bell...

I thought I was a real fisherman, are you trying to start something Flaptail? Fish any way you want to or care to, it is still fishing. BTW, I have been getting my permit for years and I didn't even get any herring for the past 3 seasons, I may get some this year unless it's still a zoo.

whats all this "permit" stuff about?
at my herring run all you need is a fishing licence and you can't net them on tues. thurs. or sun.
25 per person.
youz guys must have a very small run.

you must be talking about watertown...
middleboro has the biggest run in the state because they keep a tight leash on how many permits they give out. they went to a "lottery" system for non-res permits this year because they sold out all 300 in 5 hours on jan 2 last year...

no, my run is on lower mystic lake.
does anyone know if its legal to cast net them in the harbor?
i belive that once there past the route 99{summer st.} bridge you can't {dip net only}?.
i mean, say you're off the airport and you see a massive school can you cast net them there?.
i'm not really sure of the laws regarding herring at sea.??

Years ago we use to be able to get all we wanted behind thw VFW in Taunton. The other side a a huge pipe that went in to what was then none as the Brick Yard.
But I have heard that it is not that way anymore?? Its been a long long time since I have been down there!
