A couple questions!

Has anyone used frozen herring? What are your thoughts?? and what is a 9er rig?

Going fishing on Saturday in Boston Harbor or Plum Island. I will report when I get back!

Gus,
I use frozen herring as the season progresses; however, if you can get fresh (like from some of the gloucester tackle shops or herring boats) it works much better!
I was at the Cape last weekend...I had three live herring and four frozen as backup. I had a fish on each of the live herring (even after they were dead) within five minutes a piece. After they were gone, I switched to frozen and got nothing!
Like I said, later in the season, I don't notice such a marked difference.
Later,
Rick

A 9er rig is an umbrella rig with mostly shad bodies. that is used to trool while in a boat. These things work great. But watch out for the bluefish they will tare them apart.

Thanks for the answers!

I am going out of Winthrop tom morning at 5am and Bob's Bait Shack does not open until 7:00am....how lame is that.

If I want any herring at all I will have to get it frozen today from a local bait shop....no fresh!

I will jig for some macks...Do you think live or fresh chunk macks will work better than frozen Herring??

Live or fresh macs are great... probably better than frozen herring.. Whatever frozen herring you use, be sure to keep it iced down until you use it or it will become very mushy and spoiled, and the fish don't like that...
