Potential New Virgina State Record S-B
Got this of CS and then TidalFish:

Carolyn Brown of Va Beach weighed in a 63 lb striped bass this afternoon. THIS WILL BE A NEW STATE RECORD (previously 61-12). All are waiting on the dock at Long Bay Pointe for Claude Bain to come down and make it official.
The crew were fishing on the Fishateer, owner Linda Stenke, Captain Larry Mattocks, Carolyn, and Debbie Hurst aboard. They were fishing off Corolla light in 39 degree water, about 50 ' deep.
The incredible part of the story is: they were pulling a double rig of a parachute and a 9" white storm lure. Two fish hit at the same time; a 25 pounder hit the parachute rig, the monster hit the storm lure. After finally getting both fish to the boat NO NET. So the captain got on the swim platform and lipped both fish into the boat.
The fish measured in at 50 inches length and 33 1/4 inches in girth.
Congratulations on ONE HUGE FISH Carolyn. We're all proud of the catch.

I could be easily wrong on this--with bass the fecundity of the females over 35Ibs, their breeding potential, doesn't change that much. She's done her work. Let the twenty-five pounders go.

That's one big fish! I think Goose is making jokes, but it still made me laugh, even if he didn't mean it.

I am wrong. Big females can have upward of 10 million eggs in them.

What a fish. Too bad large stripers do not feed when the water is colder than 55 degrees.

One hell of a gut, but the length doesn't look close to 63 lbs worth, anyone have the measurements?

Wow, huge fish. She holds it up like she's been there before. Interesting that a fish that length weighs that much. Pete Santini told me once that there tends to be 2 sets of striper genetics out there. The older set tend to be fatter, heavier fish and are not around nearly as much as they used to be. The newer set tends to be leaner. Appears this fish has an old set of genes and a full belly to boot.

the bigger the female
the bigger the egss are she hatches and the more prolific offspring follow which leads to healthier stock that have a much better chance of survival. AND Goose she being that BIG ,might have 20 million eggs in her.....
and i cringe when i think of that big an egg producer being culled out of the genetic pool just prior to spawning time.

the dimensions on that fish don't seem that weird when you think of the dimensions of the world record:
78# 8 ounces
53" long
34.5" girth
