BF, is there still enough of the bolt left to grab?
Try shocking the bolt with a hammer, not too hard as to break something, and then grag with vice grips, may have to shock it several times.

Larry,
Is any of the bolt exposed when pump is off or is there a timing case cover between water pump and block?
I may be willing to help you out as that is my line of work!

Ron...there is about an inch of the bolt sticking out of the block. It is in iffy shape though, with all the grabbing I had tried to do....I did get a sense that it wanted to move though. Just don't have anything that can give me the grip I need. I had the vice-grips on there about as tight as anyone could clamp them and they simply slid off!
Ron...any help would be greatly appreciated!
Pump is off...no timing cover in the way.....the motor is a 318 Chrysler.

Give it a good dose of lube (WD-40?) to loosen it up a bit?

FWW...the bolt is about 6 inches long more or less.....maybe even 7! Don't think wd-40 will penetrate that deep?

Larry,
sometimes in that case I would weld a nut over whats left of the bolt to have something to use a wrench or socket to, and if possible I'de heat the block a bit as long as it is in a safe afea not to cause additional damage.
Another way , is to cut or gring the remaining amount of bolt off , center punch and drill and re tap or drill and helicoil it..
If you want, I could pick it up and take care of it.

I thought of both of those options RR.....they sound like the way to go. How would you pick it up?
Any idea of cost so I can have a migraine headache tonight?

BF, yes they do go thru the timing cover on a 318. If worse comes to worse, pull the t-cover and put a new chain and gears in it. Your more than half way there.

If theres enough bolt exposed cut a deep slot in the end with the trusty old Dremel. Bang a big a screwdriver into the slot and then turn the screwdriver handle with a pipe wrench or vise grips until you get it to budge. Worked for me more than once. Good luck.

this is also my line of work, actually i work at a chrysler dealer. if you do have some bolt still sticking out try using a stud extractor. if not there are a lot of ways to do it, i would have to see it to know what you have, but i always start with the easiest way first.

Glad you're getting your sand sled fixed. Nice save RR. All trades have little tricks that makes one man's agony another man's breeze. Now, let's go fishing!

Gotta do my part to ensure no plugs bounce off my boat when I'm trolling wire line at Race point in July, Just in case larry is fishing off the beach!!!
Maybe one time I'll be able to get him out of the sand down there to see what a blast it can be bouncing bucktails and jigs!!!

(Just hope Ron doesn't put a remote detonated explosive device in my Jeep for those days when I "do" graze his head with a 4 ounce Hopkins?)

Don't laugh!
Back in the early 1980s, at the height of the stolen car time & I was fixing atleast 2 dozen GM popped ignition columns a week,
I had this plan of making my millions by inventing the ultimate vehicle security system.
It consisted of a glow plug (like they have in diesel motors for cold day starting) installed in the gas tank. to be activated when the vehicle was not started with the key.
But at the time, we didn't have the gps technology nedded to have the vehicle far enough away from innocent by standers!!!
