Cork or foam?
Here's another dopey thread to check out on those cold,crappy snowy days.And drunken' St.Pats days.
Which do you prefer,foam or cork handles on your rods?
PS.Happy Bday pop!

Burled cork.....I got big hands and it fills my grip better than cork tape or foam and it just feels more comfortable.  |

i used to use foam but found after a year or two of sliming them they harden and get slippery easily, even if i scrubbed them. also if you decide to redo the rod it is a major pain in the arse to remove the cruddy old foam. i've been using cork for the last couple of years and it feels kinda natural now. recently i won a rod at the S-B tfctf nite that has a 3M non skid type material instead of cork. I'm curious to see if it will chew flesh from my paws or if it is my new found love.

Similar stuff, spence.
Most of my rods have cork on the fore grips. When I build them I use the foam (dense stuff not that old neoprene stuff that was like a sponge and would crack). I have a few rods with the 3M tread tape stuff and I have no complaints about it. I have some rods with the dense foam (brown) on it that is over 25+ yrs old - still looks nice.
I hardly ever have my hands on the foregrip unless I am into a mule of a fish, or when I choke up on the rod to grab the fish. The back portion behind the reel seat I never touch and the end section is that hard foam. Typical factory grips are too long for me anyway so I end up grabbing the blank on the back......lol.
I wear those TF mangrove sun gloves all the time so I wouldn't ever get abraided any way.
Cork now a days is very $$. All the stuff they sell has lots of filler in it. Given a choice and $ wasn't the issue and I had a lathe to turn the grip I would go with cork. Gotta love natures materials.

foregrip, cork or cork tape
butt, if it's a rod you hold all the time cork is fine, but if it's a rod that's going to get dropped in a holder a lot, be it a spike or a boat holder I'd stay away from cork, foam or tape will hold up better.

cork tape, i put one layer up the rod then 2 , 3 or 4 more layers for the foregrip and the butt grip. sand and taper the edges, 5 minute epoxy more sanding to a taper. black marker over epoxy then wrap with thread. i call it a leo custom |
