Colorado blade surfster

Test swam one yesterday and was very unhappy with the action. Had to bend the lip back to point were is it was beyond perpendicular to the thru wire. Then finally it swam ok at med-slow retrive, but still sucked at very very slow retrive, anybody got experience with this?

BTW, there is some kinda "bleeding" coming outta the nose thru-wire hole, what is that sap? Plug is red western which I have used a bit but I never had this problem before.

Used a lot of red cedar and never had any "bleeding" or sap secreted from it (did you seal it?). As far as the action of the plug, could be the size of the lip, you need enough lip to move the plug. Post a pic. Is the plug weighted?

Is that a #5 blade? I have found that colorados work best in calmer water. You could try going up a size. Before doing that you might try bending a curve into the lip and see if that helps. It's nice looking anyway. can't see the tail hook but if it's a treble you coud try a dressed siwash.

Ferret

I test swam my Surfster's 2 weeks ago in the hudson as well. They were Bob Hahn DUps, weight about 1oz and had a #5 Curved Colorodo blade.

They wiggled like a teenage girl on the dance floor. No complaints, I had no tail hook, just Feather on a piece of wire.

Ferret, still have some AYC. Will give your source a try on next order. I would make the back end of that plug thinner next time. Try curving that lip like a Hahn.

I have a couple of surfster lips I wanna use, but don't have a beltsander to plane the head-will it swim with a round head, or a flat head????
or should I spin them up and go use eben's sander?

Is it good, or is it Sofa King good?
