Congrats and welcome aboard Striper Swiper (are you in the MSBA Junior division?)...

Getting that first fish under the belt can be the hardest - but it also creates the greatest addiction to surf fishing!!!

Good going Striper Swiper, and welcome to the site.
I also only got one on the day I got my first of this season. It was about the same size on the last day of April. That's great you got it on a fly, I still can't cast one of those rods.

Striper Swiper - I was thirty three years old before I caught my first striped bass...looks like you have a couple decades head start on that. Way to go and thanks for posting here. Keep up the interest in fishing & I expect to be reading more about your angling experiences over the years.

Congrats on your fish. Striped Bass are some of the hardest fish to fool. Their difficulty to catch is one of the things we love (and hate) about them. Flyfishing is hard enough with the casting, any striper you fool on a fly is something you should be proud of.
