Eelin in the waves

I was going to pick up some eels on the way home to go out w/ tonight. I checked the forecast and they're saying that it will be a little rough tonight. My question is....Is it worth slinging eels when the water is rough?

If it is are there any tips or tricks I need to know for this?

This was going to be my 1st time trying it so I thought I'd ask the experts

DF, I avoid using eels in the heavy surf. They ride up in the waves. If you are on a point and casting across the waves, rather than inot them, it works okay. Just my 2 cents

If the eel won't stay down in rough water you can put a egg sinker above your leader.

go with nice big black eels. they will find a way to get down in the surf! eels will work anytime, any place! big surf attracts big bass. i would avoid any sort of weight unless you absolutely need it, and even then i would try to avoid it.

in the 36 years I've been hunting the sb..I can say I've seen some monster bass take on a fish finder rig with 3-6 oz. of lead in heavy surf...with eels on the hook,,don't dismiss this way of fishing.....I've been out fished this way because I couldn't get my eel down an was to stubbern to try it.

when bass are eating they don't care if there's lead there or not. just give yourself atleast 3' of leader between the eel an lead.

They work good and the fish are often close in. You can also put a rubber core sinker up the line to keep the eel down. Not a problem unless the weads are heavy then they will pile up on the rubber core. In that case , shove the sinker down the eels throat. Seriously!

You can aso use a heavy hook and a couple pieces of split shot near the hook, this will help getting the eel down...Bass LOVE eels, big surf, little surf - no matter

I'll make sure I bring extra weight....But looking out the window now it doesn't look like its going to be nasty......But the weathermen are never wrong

A Friggin Skate...

But in all honesty I did snag him. I did manage one striper about 26". The weather was awesome out on the beach last night.

Now I know that I can rig up the dead eels and use them again. I have an article in an old "On the Water" on doing it. But what would be the best way to store them until I get a chance to do it.

I got get them out of the fridge before the wife sees them or I may have a little TOO much time on my hands to fish.
