I got my first 40#
I caught my first 40# fish last night on BI. It was 45" and it weighed 40lbs and 4oz. It was a very fat fish with a big head. I read the the thread below about fish being on the Atkins diet, luckily this one was not. I do not have a digital camera, otherwise I would have included a photo.

Congrats on your 40. I love hearing about fat fish again. I remember the old pound to inch days, i.e. 40 inches 40lbs., sounds like yours was about there
I hope to get my 40 someday, still stuck in the 30's....
Eels... gotta love them too.

Congratulations on your milestone Steve
That's a nice step on your way to a 50.
My first 40 last year had a big head too and was also as long as my first 30, same as yours = 45"

Hey Steve congrats on the fish....That was me you were talking to Sunday morning. I saw the pic at the shop. Bet you're glad you went to those eels. I was there 8 nights, ended up with 8 - 18 fish a night and into the am, biggest was 47inches and 36lbs. I had a good number of Bass in the 20-29lb range. All on snakes, didn't even throw a plug...Agian, Congrats!

Thanks CowHunter,
It was nice meeting you. I was expecting to run into you guys again. It sounds like you did very well and yes I am happy that I went to eels. The funny thing is that I went out Thursday night with only two eels because the shop did not have anymore. I started off throwing a needlefish and nothing. I switched to the eel and wham. Most of the fish I took during the week were between 15 and 20#s but there were not too many of them. I am used to getting a lot more fish there on plugs.
I sent you a pm.
Take care,
Steve
