DSC operation

Is this being monitord by the cg yet? I got my # from boat us last fall and just entered it in my radio. My radio is also connected thru to my gps and it is aware of the lat/lon. In theory, when I press distress button it should brodcast my lat/lon and my mmsi code thus identifying me and my boat...who to call ect. Sort of like a poor mans local epirb. ( I know epribs are a lot better)

Does DSC operation really work. Is it monitored? I would be intersting to be able to test it but I guess you can't.

According to my manual, if someone actually transmits a DSC code it should pop up on my chart plotter and give me a heading and distance to his position but I have never seen that happen yet.

ANy anyone witnessed this in operation?

Also, we could be part of a "group" which would have some advantages when we talk on the radio...Has anyone tried or attempted this?
