livewell (baitwell) pump @ 1/2 volume

Last week I was in an area with alot of floating weed and I think I picked up some in my aerator pump. It started pumping at maybe 50% of normal volume.

I tried to flush it at home by forcing water thru it from both ends, but it seems to still be off. I also thought that weeds might dry up and disintegrate during the week, but no dice.

Anyone have any suggestions? Its the 3rd season with the boat and although I always run freshwater thru it at home, might it just be time to replace. 2 1/2 seasons seems pretty short.

I haven't opened it up yet, I was hoping for any non-invasive solutions first.

Thanks.

I am having the same trouble here. I had no flow at all. Cleaned out the inline filter and it got a little better. Its still not what it is supposed to be. I have hickory shad dieing in the livewell. I think I will be replacing mine (it doubles as the washdown pump).

If you have a check valve inline try turning off the water supply then turn it back on while the pump is running. I had the same issue a few weeks back and this took care of it.

Open up the filter part of the pump, you will probably find seaweed in it. If your pump is easily accessible it should only take a few moments. I do mine once a year to make sure it's clean, I had the same problem as you.

Yeah, that's the issue, its not all that easy to get to, but do-able. I'm gonna take it apart tonight or tomorrow, time permitting.

thanks for the help guys.
