ceramic bearings worth it?
I went through the Abec 7 thing years ago and decided it wasn't worth it. I do keep a Mag elite all souped up for possible Abie /Bonito fishing on the outside where a long cast can really help sometimes but in general , I think the stock bearings are fine in the Abu reels.
Why ceramic bearings? I haven't tried them but what about them would lead me to thjink they would be any different than the Abec 7 things?
Any opinions , pro or con , on the ceramic bearings in Abu reels?

Ah, for fishing I don't think they're worth the expense and the hassle (they break easily).
I mean, $20 for just one ceramic bearing?
ABEC 7's are good enough for fishing IMO.
There are some guys who can hit 800 feet with stock Abec 3's. Controlling the spool speed to prevent over run is a greater concern than the rollability of the bearings!
For competitive distance casting, ceramic's a no-brainer.

I agree I never use them. Especially in the larger sized reels. I do replace the drag washers and I like a fancier handle, but the bearings I leave the way they came.

one application
for fishing, i don't think they are worth it .... one advantage they do bring is low maintenance.. they work fine with little or no oil...

I have them in an Abu 7500C3CT. To tell ya the truth I don't see any difference over the Abec5s that I had in it. Not worth the 39.95 for a pair.

I have to agree . not worth the money for fishing , casting for distance comps is another matter . I have abec 7s in a couple abu's but most are stock . abec 7s are worth getting , they are better than the stock abec 3s .
