SOUTH KINGSTOWN AND VINEYARD HAVEN
937 PM EDT THU SEP 2 2004

...THE DANGER OF HIGH SURF AND RIP CURRENTS WILL INCREASE ALONG THE
SOUTH COAST OF NEW ENGLAND THROUGH THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND...

SOUTHERLY SWELLS ASSOCIATED WITH DISTANT HURRICANE FRANCES WILL BRING
THE DANGER OF HIGH SURF AND RIP CURRENTS TO BEACHES ALONG THE SOUTH
COAST OF RHODE ISLAND AND MASSACHUSETTS THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND...
INCLUDING CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS.

SWELLS OF UP TO 6 FEET HAVE ARRIVED ON THE WATERS SOUTH OF LONG
ISLAND THURSDAY EVENING...AND ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE SOUTH COASTAL
BEACHES OF NEW ENGLAND FRIDAY NIGHT OR SATURDAY.

THESE SWELLS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE BREAKERS AS HIGH AS 10
FEET ON SOUTH FACING BEACHES THROUGH THE UPCOMING LABOR DAY
WEEKEND...IN ADDITION TO DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS.

RIP CURRENTS ARE STRONG NARROW CHANNELS OF WATER THAT FLOW OUT TO
SEA. REMEMBER...IF YOU BECOME CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT...REMAIN CALM
AND TRY TO SWIM ON A COURSE THAT IS PARALLEL TO THE BEACH UNTIL YOU
ARE OUT OF THE RIP...THEN SWIM TOWARD SHORE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SWIM
BACK TO SHORE DIRECTLY AGAINST THE RIP...SINCE IT CAN EXHAUST AND
DROWN EVEN THE STRONGEST SWIMMER.

FOR YOUR SAFETY...IF YOU ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO THE BEACH...TRY TO
FIND ONE WHERE LIFEGUARDS ARE PRESENT AND NEVER SWIM ALONE.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA FOR THE LATEST
INFORMATION ON THE HIGH SURF AND RIP CURRENTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

Midweek could get very very nasty.

SE exposure could get shut down around Wednesday.
If it does, please don't try to go out.

Yep, I don't know where that was taken, but I was at a certain spot in Little compton and it was about that same size.

Bring on the surf!!!

The last time I saw surf like this where I'll be fishing at I got my biggest of the year...a 38" 24LBer.

Crafty,I'll be down there after dark.If you're out this way stop by.I got THAT feeling.

Just got back in, surf was too damn big at my hole friday night!! I tried for an hour without a hit. Decided to try somewhere new that would possibly have a lil less surf. First cast i got a 21lb, 2nd cast 15lb, 3rd cast 13lb Found myself a new hole. Got a bunch more around 10lbs. Is the fishing really that much better when the surf is this big? I always seem to do best when its under 4 ft.

surf that will knock you in and drown you is one bad scenario (duh)

on the beach it is surf that mixes up the water and the sand so bad that no bass would swim in it
also, surf that knocks your line around because you can't keep the rod high enough screws things up

live for wave action
