Plug Love Affairs

You see the plug in your bag and it's the first one you tie on, and the last one you fish for the night. You have dreams of it working it's magic in the white water froth. She may not be the prettiest, or the shapliest, or even a distance caster but you love her with your heart and soul. You think about buying it by the hundreds and wonder if try to convince yourself every hour that plugs wont go bad sitting in a fish tote, and so what if you own 100 of the same plug in one color, this is America.

And then it happens, she breaks your heart, nights and night of abuse has taken it toll. The twinkle in your eye has faded. Now your just friends......and you see a new love in one of your plug bag tubes, no knicks in the paint, sharp new hooks, a virgin to the surf. Once again your in love.

For a while I was in love with a superstrike blue/ white darter. It was fished show much that the top lip was more like a hump and the swimming action wasn't the same anymore, but it still caught fish. I put her in a retirement home.

Big water showed up and I was in love with a white Noth Bar Tackle bottle plug. The big water has left and the love is gone.

Fishing is picking up and once again I'm on the prowl searching for love.

What's your latest plug love affair?

Black 7" Bombers with a shaved down lip (take 1/4" off with a sharp knife... swims pissah just at the surface... poor man's danny...

Love teasers again.... after a friendly reminder how much big bass like em.... (thanks P)

But.. my all time, been retired twice, but back for its third season, a beat to chit sliver over black rebel, 7" with about 1/2 the silver left... the rest is bone... .... more than one 20 to her credit...

A black Mr Wiggily lives in my bag right now... Love is there, but havent caught on it yet... need to find the ideal conditions for her I suppose....

(shameless A-kissing, my trusty, chipped and abused yellow Tat Darter for the breachways...) and heavy surf

I hooked up with a sweet swimmer about a week ago.......sure she is cute, shapely......her eyes are to die for and her lip......ooohhhh her lip is like nothing I have ever experienced in my life! Her brown hair hangs from her 6/0 VMC siwash seductively and I can only imagine it swaying in the surf, swinging behind her as she carves through the frothy surf! Yup! I knew she was the one when I saw her pulled from the Plano box she was resting in in the back of Slipknots truck last weekend for it was he who brought her to the dance and introduced me to her! He cradled her in his palm lovingly....her black top coat and her belly of trace gold and silver.....how could I resist? "I had to have her"......I said to Slip and after thinking a moment, he put her into my arms! She has not seen water yet....oh no!! Not before I can crank a few copies off on my Grizzly 9247.......for I believe that love is forever, and should I lose my love in the surf to another, I must be assured that love can bloom again when I slip my hand into my plug bag to snap on a replacement! Sure, there are other fish in the sea they tell me, but a beauty like this one only comes along once in a season.......so ya gotta have copies just in case!

Not a plug but I have a love affair with redgills. I have caught more fish this year on them than anything else.

I guess I'm a plug slut, no love for me, just hit it and quit it. I go through everything in my surf bag in 45 minutes. My basic guidline is dark colors on dark nights, light color on light nights. I keep changing until I hit fish.

half the paint is off so soon she will be just a bright nighter or I'll give her a make up job with a spray can...but she is my go to this season

A Yo Zuri 100g Surface Cruiser. When no other plug will reach, reach for it. Banged em' the other night on a yella Tat' Darter. I'll take a yella Hellcat 48. They may fall apart looking at them but they catch. And of course a scratch Bomber.

The Lex Lures Surfster with the concave lip. Oh, how it flutters! You can swim it or even pop-it!

I had a love affair with one of my homemade 2 oz yellow over white pencil popper. But I lost her to the rocks a couple of days ago.

Stay classy
