We're Back!!!!!! MV Report
Well hello everybody, hope you are all doing well. Greg sorry to hear about Karen, I hope she is doing OK, We will say a prayer for her.
Well MV was really tough this year, the numbers of albies were way down as compared to the last several years. But as long as you hooked into a few life was very good. We had some good days and some very slow days. Caught most of the Albies on a dropper fly, even got one double header on the teaser rig caught by Joe Ciampa himself, what a sight to see. The fish seamed very finicky this year as all they were feeding on was very tiny sand eel's the smallest I have ever seen over there.
We took the boat out one afternoon, and sat on acres of albies just about a mile off of Cape Poge light, that just wouldn't feed, threw everything, got NADA, did pick up a few small blues.
As for blues, there are rats from hell everywhere. caught alot of those. Some nights we were bass fishing you just couldn't keep them off your hook, but at least they were pulling the other way.
Took a charter out 2 days before we left, caught a few 8-9 lb blues and a few really nice 40-42" bass but sent them back to the fish god's as we were looking for 30 + lber's, but was a good day out there.
Never in my life have I seen the lack of bait on MV that we witnessed this year, was very creepy. Had a few bad blows and lost alot of beach off of Wasque!!! Was very sad to see how much has been lost over the course of a year.
Not alot of sizable albies this year. Did hear of a guy catching a 12.97 lb albie on a fly rod a few days before we left. That's one awesome fish. Mackerel were in very heavy the fist 2 weeks caught quite a few and froze them for dad. Most of them ran in the 4 lb range which is quite a nice size for here. That being Spanish Mackerel!!!!
So whats everybody else been up too?Whats the scoop the local seen. Any fish in Boston Harbor, I hear Rhody is heating up quite nicely, I guess with all thats going on the Power plants are out of the question.
Wish I had more too report, but thats why they call it fishing. Also saw The Big Catch & Squidmama, they are having a pretty good year as Rollie caught a Bonito boat that took him a second and Squidmama took a weekly bluefish and was a runner up with a bass when we left but don't know how she made out. I hope she kicked some butt.
So What the SCOOP, going out Thurday on the boat and need some info!!!!!

I talked to Greg the other day - Karen is doing OK, just a little shaken up plus she probably has a headache for the joys of new car shopping...
Sorry to hear that things were slower on the Vineyard but maybe the fish are migrating down inshore more this year than in years past... I wish I had been able to get over there, even for just a few days - but it just wasn't happening this year....
So who did the Stupid Pet Trick at the house this year? And who was the house leader? - You or BC?
RHody has been decent this run. Still some fish moving down the backside of the Cape. Cuttyhunk was solid last week... Things just lookin' pretty good... Any chance you and BC will be able to come down this weekend or no chance because of just getting back?

Hey JohnR, you didn't miss a whole lot this year, hear are the fridge tally for this year.
Albies - 58, last year we caught 184.
Striper - 164 alot more that last year but biggest was 35 inches.
Blues - 206 more that last year range from 12 inches to 9 lbs.
Spanish - 20, mmm good eatin!!!
Squid - 164, even the sqiuding sucked!!!
other species - 2 Jacks, one weird fish with prison bars on it.
1 weak fish about 6 lbs. alot of sand sharks,
the usuall skate and sand fleas and I mean big!!!
Loser award this year went to Joe Ciampa AKA "the fartist" for releasing a 35 inch bass because he was told it had to be 36 inches to weigh in for the derby, NOT only had to be 32". Nice Move, could have taken a weekly or the derby for the geriatrics. LOL
Got my butt kicked this year, only caugth 5 albies, man is my body hurtin!!!
Most Albies from shore was a toss up between my Uncle form CA and BC with 7 each.
Mr Parguette caught the most combined shore and boat with 12.
Was a very strange year indeed. Alot of big fish came from Nantucket and Squibby. Never made it too Nantucket.
Had a great time with mom and dad and the family the 1st week. they both got an albie so that made my trip.
Unfortunatley we have clients on Friday and Saturday and maybe Sunday so we will not be able to make it this weekend, and I really wanted to get down there. Maybe we can hook up some time next weekend?

hehehehe....
Dumb luck just seems to follow Joe - don't it? Sad that a 35 inch fish might win a weekly though.... Guess the fishing really was off...
The next weekend is Rhody Tri-state - you two going?

Not sure about tri-state John as my arms are hurting pretty good and don't know if I can take it right now. Would like to hook up with you some time and go do some spots down that way. I have only been down once and really like what I saw!!!!
We are going out Thurday on the boat weather permitting and do some scouting as we are taking a fellow out and his friends on Friday and Sat. Would really have liked to come down there this weekend and hook up with the crew. Does it start Friday or Saturday and when does it go till?

It officially starts Saturday going until people poop out but there is an unofficial "scouting" night Friday where some of us are going to meet up & get together...
Also, the last weekend of the month is the MDA Tourney - Striped-Bass is sponsoring a team for that one too...

Hey ChrisL, thanks buddy, that did make my trip that mom & dad hooked up. Don't get me wrong, no matter how bad the fishing is it is a very beautiful place. I love being over there and watching the sunsets & sunrises, driving the beaches scouting for fish and having a few chinese firedrills. It just doesn't get any better than eating, sleeping & fishing for 3 weeks with all of our friends, and part of my family. The comorraudery ?sp on the water doesn't get any better either.
As for the weeked I really wish I could get down there, but its not looking good, if the weather gets windy I may have a chance, but BC has to work.
Sounds like you had a pretty good vacation also!!! How are the kids doing?

Welcome back... sorry I couldn't make it down MV. I just didn't have the heart or the energy to do it. I've actually only fished once since being back from Nantucket.
I keep using the weather as an excuse, but its just an excuse.
I did take a day off and hit the harbor via boat. There were still fish around as of last thursday and I heard some fish were around thru the weekend. I posted a pretty detailed report, but the short is the fish were around Long Island and the bridge. I heard of fish being caught in Hingham Bay over the weekend. I also hear there are still lots of fish north of Boston, so we could get a visit from them before long.
The albies were pretty scarce in Nantucket also. There just weren't enough around to get consistent shots at 'em. I'm sure you guys had plenty of fun anyway. We didn't have great fishing either, but enough to make the trip that much better. Its just nice to get the heck outta Dodge for a while.
John, I could be on the IR for the SB.com tourny this weekend. I had a freakish playground injury yesterday in which I likely broke my finger. I took Britta to the park and well, its kinda complicated... At this point, I doubt I could pick up a rod (or use the hand to reel). I will probably see you no matter what cause we should be down on Saturday. I'm sure I'll at least be able to use a spinning rod by the weekend.
Later all.

Welcome back, sorry it wasn't great, but I'd have been surprised if it were this year. I'm about to give up for the year, but it's been so farging windy the last couple weekends, it was tough to even wet a line. It is going to warm up later in the week so the harbor might light up if there is anything left there, guess it depends on the water temp.
I'm still hoping to get a nice day, something worth launching at Woods Hole and maybe talking Slipknot into building fish stories instead of cabinets . If that doesn't happen, then I'm off to RI or CT. Let me know how the harbor is if you get out, thanks.

Affirmative on the breaking fish. I was driving towards Marina Bay on Sunday showing some friends around. There were fish breaking in Blacks Close to the bridge when I was passing by. Only a handful of people fishing, I was ready to turn around and get my gear from the house, but my wife politely reminded me we had company if ya know what I mean.

GS, we will let ya know how it goes. Don't give up yet, I think the best is yet to come, as I still don't think it is really happening yet.
Chubsdad, Hi Buddy, would have loved to visit more but this was the 1st time in 3 years that BC and I had a chance to just go and fish when we wanted and I really needed that. It was way overdue and was great.
Hey Sh## Bag, Tehe!!! I mean Jenn, whats up? Don't worry I'm not complaining about the trip. If I could I would live there, I love it there and any chance I get to go there is a great thing, plus got to spend a week with mom and dad. Life is Good.
Thanks guys for the Boston reports, we will be going tomorrow, will let ya know how it goes.

Fisherwoman, glad you had a good trip there. I guess the wind hasn't made thigs very productive lately.
Chris, glad you had a good vacation too. I ended up at Nauset Friday Night catching bass and seals
