When I see lines like "there is better out there for half the money"... I am curious. I need fly reel/rod advice. This is an area I know little about. I have a couple of lower to mid end "package" fly rod sets ups but they are kinda cheap. They work OK and since I don't go fly fishing much they have been fine. My wife has a half way decent orvice package and she goes more often then me. Next year I plan to do a lot more flyrod fishing and get more serious about it (when the conditions permit) and want to get ONE real nice rod and reel. I am looking for the greatvalue in a higher end rod and reel.

I am in a stage where I am replacing my gear slowly with quality stuff.

9 or 10 wt is my range. I wnat a reel with a larger dia to it. I plan to use it for bass, blues, albies and bones. And if I ever get the chance to burn it up on a tuna I would try that too but 98% of the time I plan on using it will be in shallow water in tight.

the local shop I frequent most really doesn't do much fly rod stuff and I hesitate walking into some of the others with the words higher end....I just don't want to spend a lot of money and walk out with a shiny gold reel, I want a great value...any suggestions?

thanks in advance

MR.SANDMAN now that the fish have gone south, the FLY SHOW WILL be starting you can LOOK at ALL the REEL/RODS you want an TRY them OUT at the show, take your TIME an go with what FEEL comfortable to you. you talk about BONE'S TUNA, maby bones an a 9-10 lage arbor TUNA, footballs maby, but big boys, you will need more QUALITY EQUIPTMENT, PATE'S, ABLES,FIN-NOR,an so on. if your only fishing from BEACH, 9wt should be fine, heavy surf 10wt, an off a boat 10wt is a must you need LIFTTING power. you can catch stripers w/ a PFLUEGER MEDALIST 1495 REEL . it's not the reel it's the person behing it, remember reel only hold line. it's how you use them that counts. so look around, feel them an try them ALL out ,what ever you LIKE. is what YOU get."GOOD LUCK GOOD FISHIN"

P.S. remember "you get what you pay for"
