The sad part is, that these guys play the "I have a mortgage, and a kid in college....." Then nothing gets done.
Guess what buddy sometimes people lose their jobs for crappier reasons, learn a new trade, or find a new job like everyone else does.

Nobody is stuck between a rock and a hard cover!!!
Pete!you run a business, if you have to fire someone ,that's what ya do!!! Same in in Diodottis position, either get rid of the gill nets or let them stay!!!
The Specialist: Do you have kids in colledge???
Are you like everyone else? had to find a new job, or learn a new trade???
Happy New Year!!!

Those meetings are usually a JOKE they already have there decision made before the meeting. I used to attend the waterfowl and upland game bird meetings and no matter how many people stood up and felt the proposed changes were unfair, bad ,etc they always did the exact opposite of what the majority of people wanted attending the meetings

Cod Fishiing
Fished there yesterday and not a single fish, it sucked. Based upon my reports of two years ago when no nets were allowed. I had banner days jan 19th, 21, 27 and 29 and caught a few dozen 6-10 LB fish as late as Feb 23rd. Last year Nov 1, 21 excellent days and Dec 27th and 28th after nets slow but did manage about a dozen.
What does this prove, that I can't catch anything yesterday I suck as a fisherman. I don't think so, I see a trend. Next year won't be a problem becuase I am thinking of hauling out for winter next year and go ice fishing.
I am interested to know why only one jig fisherman and one charter boat spoke out. Is it the fact that only a few see a problem. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and I thought if more hook guys spoke out, it would have helped.

 Good day to you!!!
Heard this morning that you were out there yesterday!!! You stopped to talk to a couple of friends of mine on the, Blue Dagger!!! They and a few others didn't do that well either!!!!
Just after a full moon, water still dirty etc: also plays a part, I do believe!!!
Ice fishing!, BUUUUURRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! not for me, uless it is in a heated smelt shack like at "James Eddy!!!!"
Some of us are just shy!! Not good at talking in a crowd!!! If we were all like," Bruce", the meeting would still be going on!!!
Also those of us here in Gloucester are friends regardless what side of the fence and their is no reason to acuse one another of miss doings ya might say and get into fist-a-cuffs!!!
Case in point: Yeserday at the Elks a gillnetter friend and I were having a beer together and we were hashing it out, not giving in to each other!!! He has his believes and I have mine, and them beers tasted good!!!!
Happy New Year!!!!

Fly Rod to answer your question, no kids in college, I have a good job now, but both my wife and I have barely escaped about 4 layoffs over the past 2 yrs. I got laid off about 9yrs ago, and had to find a new job,yes it sucks , but it can be done. All I am saying is that there has been black cloud over the commercial fishing industries for years. The writing has been on the wall. When I see the writing on the wall I becoome proactive and start looking for something new. When they kill it for good then what will they say?
