must be the angle off the pic, Trust me, the fish weighed what I said it weighed! JohnR was with me when I weighed it.That day I weighed the fish at every bait shop in Rhode Island. If I remember right,it was 47&1/2 inches long but man! That fish was FAT! Its almost as wide as me.I have seen plenty of 50s Quint,Thats what 50 looked like in the 80's they were fat!not long and lean.

I took that picture (or was that McKenna's profesional one?? ). The fish looks short because it was bent up inside a 196 QUART cooler. If that tail had eyes - they'd be looking at you - as that broom tail is curled towards you in the picture... That fish had an almost 30 inch girth. Using the GxGxL method - the fish come in at 51.8 pounds - the weigh scales at the shops had her at 52 pounds - 8 ounces.
Bill - I talked to Barry yesterday - he said he should be by on this Sunday or definitely next. I want him to fix it because he SHOULD fix it for doing the crappy job the first time around... (Barry = Afghan for Bad Builder)

Yeah, there are not any fish after the 5th of November. I think everyone should pack it in. Don't worry, I'll keep it honest. Heck, I think people should pack it in now, since these fish leave earlier each year.

For anyone who thinks a 47-1/2" fish is too short to be a 50----McReynolds' world record fish was "only" 53" in length.
Once you get over 45", girth gives a fish its weight, not length.

Hey Seawolf,This is why I do not post much anymore, its comments like that.I never said there would not be any fish after november. What I said was the chances for a monster pass fairly quick after that date.If there is no bait to hold'em,they keep on tr#^^^^^&! You can catch all the rat bass you want well up until thanksgiving,.But the big ones are very hard to find. You need to be in the right place at the right time.Right Now is the right time.Rhode island has not had a good seaherring run in the fall since 1991,in fact, most of the daytime fishing the last 4 or 5 years has been big bluefish and very little else. The pattern has been that the bass just head off the cape and islands and head past the south of block island withouit swingin in to rhodys mainland. Its possible to luck into a school or two of decent fish but, its really a crapshoot.Im convinced that the big run of good bass we had a naps the past few years were the same school or two of fish that had just hung around there for the last week of october and the first week of november. In my opinion it was never different schools each night, we were sticking the same school of bass. When the bait took off, they took off.I remember catching 7 fish one night all in the 30lb range and getting not one hit the next, just like a switch they were gone. The reason they stayed as long as they did was the fact that the area had an unusuall amount of baby juvinile lobsters in tight to the rocks that time of the year since 1994 or so.My last night of fishing would always be the night before thanksgiving, after that it was around the 12th of november. But there were still plenty of school bass to be had after that right into december! I just had better things to do than add my numbers.
But, I have no experiance so please ask someone who has.
Saltheart, its never to windy if the wind is right! When a big cold front is just about to come in,its gets the bass feeding bigtime.Problem is it doesnt last long.Once the wind goes steady northwest or northeast for a couple of days, things shut off.Unless you want to head to the breachway on the ebb and plug up schoolbass all night long, which is fun but. Thousands of big bass can pass up rhode islands coast in a day or two when the winds blow offshore, those fish are lost until next year.

Look at the railing in the background. Most railings are 4 feet off the ground because that's what a lot of state laws require. Plus that's what's good for function. That means #^^^^^^& should be 6'1 or 6'2", maybe taller. I have no doubt that fish weighs 50lbs. I'm suprised it didn't weight more. If I was to see that fish without knowing the story or the actual weight, my guess would have been 56-58lbs. That's one big fish.
#^^^^^^&, if you were to catch another 50, would ya keep it or let it go?

and i quote : "That day I weighed the fish at every bait shop in Rhode Island." this is the reply of the #^^^^^^&.
that is the most pathetic thing i have heard in a while! why would one go to "every bait shop in Rhode Island," if not to make one's pathetic self look better in the eyes of others?!?! respect is EARNED! it's not demanded. you may want to think before you blurt out responses to people that know you are truly full of "it."

So what are you saying quint? You think #^^^^^^& didn't take his fish that he was so proud of to every tackle shop?
#^^^^^^& says posts like Seawolfs' are why he doesn't post much anymore but I suspect it's because of posts like yours.
So what if he's full of it or not.
And if you caught a fifty , I suppose you would release it and not even tell anyone? I don't know either one of you 2, maybe you were just being sarcastic, I don't know. I know #^^^^^^& can be sarcastic.
I'm almost done for the year, maybe one more trip to the canal.

It seems we have an expert here guys. Hey Quint if you were that good you would of got the shark, not let Brodie get it. By the way the day I get my 50 I will not only take it to every shop in Mass to get weighed but I will take it to RI also. Quint we don't need any negativity here on this board, there are plenty of other boards for that.

Actually - I'm pretty certain that he didn't bring it to every shop in Rhody - just the one's he's dropped countless dollars at in the 20 years he's been going after that 50. Putting in countless nights over many years with many high 40's and finally getting a 50 - yep - that's earned... When (if ) I get a 50, I might just mail a scale to everyone I know (or e-mail silver dollar sized scale pictures).... Quint, he might be abbrasive to the point of being occasionally arrogant - but he catches fish and he's a top notch fisherman and he's earned the respect of a lot of top notched fisherman. They might not like him personally, but they don't mind fishing with him. Huh. Imagine that, fishing with somebody because they're good and you respect their skills...
Bill - I think Seawolf was doing a little "There ain't no fish here" wink-wink // nudge-nudge

I'd sure carry it to all the shops i frequent. If I didn't those guys would be PO'd at me. They would want to see my fish and rejoice with me. I'd post pic's here and on SOL too for the same reason. It is the stuff of life. How's it go? joy de vie (sp?)

Look, what can I say.I was proud of that fish and wanted to show it off! who wouldent! I brought the fish too 3 baitshops. Those baitshops are not only where I buy all my gear and eels but, also the people that work at them are good friends of mine.I had no idea this harmless post would end up being like this?
Anyway Quint, when you get a 50, you can talk.Until then you can look at mine all you want! I have caught more big bass in one night, than you will see in a lifetime!
Who Likes me? Who Cares?? I have had some very solid, respectable, exellent fishing partners over the years.Joe flip, who is just the best guy anyone would want to meet, and a damn gtood fisherman, ands steve, who is one of the best striper hounds on the east coast. They wanted to shoot us at quanny breachway! Because we nailed so many bass there! Ask john about that! He came latter but for years, I was hated at quanny, because I stuck every fish in that breachway! I LOVE IT!!!
It was always funny, everyone hated us because we slammed the bass, and MADE IT LOOK EASY!! TOO EASY! They would talk behind are backs, say we were full of it ETC....
But meet those same people on the beach and wammo!! Instant friend, they would put there nose so far up our arsess they could see daylight! Thats the nature of this sport, its very competitive, very cutthroat, and full of back-stabbers.
We always lied as to where we caught fish.
Respect? Here is what I respect,A guy who can catch fish anywhere at anytime without asking everyone on the beach where to go.The worst thing in the world is that stupid question"Are they hitting"? Go find out for yourself. And a guy who works hard for his fish.
so quint! Blow it out your arsee!!! Envy will get you no where!
I will be back on the beach next season! LOOKOUT, There is going to be less big bass for everyone else Lokk for where I AM AND YOU MAY LEARN SOMETHING!!

oh, real nice! now we see what kind of a man you are. have you ever heard of preserving a species? it is people with attitudes like yours that ruin a fishery. all fish of trophy size are females. the fastest way to descimate a species is to cull out the females, as they are the regulating factor in population growth or decline. only one male is needed to imprenate many females. each female bass has the capacity to produce millions of offspring. the bigger the fish, the more expendable energy she has for producing more eggs.
also, a trophy fish's flesh tastes like a**! give me a five pound striper to eat over a fifty, anyday! this a reason why slot limits work. true slot limits, though. not like those that we have in some of the northern states, but ones that put a stop to all fish except for a small "slot" of sized fish. theses fish are more easily replaced as it takes much less time to raise a 20" bass than it does a 50" bass!
as far as learning something, i am not here to debate that. i have no gripe with your ability as others might. i just don't agree with someone in a position such as yours advocating what you have in the above quote.
