I wish

I quote"Lodge owner shows off the season's 37th tarpon over 200 lbs. landed on conventional tackle". This place is in Africia, Guinea-Bissau, off the northwest coast. Just imagine fighting that thing for 2 plus hours on conventional gear. Must be a dream come true. The place has 50 IGFA world records and the all-tackle world record tarpon at 286 lbs. The guy writing the story went to fish tarpon with fly rods but gave up his pursuit to chase more manageble species knowing he had no chance at landing a tarpon of 200 lbs., which is an average fish there, on a fly. The place is one of the poorest nations on earth and only gets 400 tourist a year. My dream is to get to the Keys someday and catch on of those babies on conventional gear. P.M.

At first I thought so but I read the whole article in Saltwter Flyfishing Oct. 2004. You can see the guys right knee pushing up on the fish and his right hand in the gillplate just to get half of fish out of water. You can see reflection in water too. He is in water to help support it too. Never be able to on land. I think it is legit. What a fish. P.M.

I'd say it is without question an untouched photo.

That's just how big they get. And they get bigger...

Just think of how big Iron Mike's 60# striper looks held in the air.

He's lucky he still has a right hand---a tarpon's gill plate is sharper than a razor
