Westminster Dog Show

Anyone watch the dog show? There were some outstanding dogs there. As a proud owner of a German Shorthair...was happy to see it win. What a stance during the final judging...unbelievable.

I watched the last 1+ hours last night. We don't own a dog but I'm sure one is in my future.

I agree, the German Shorthair Pointer stole the show with his stance in the final segment. The crowd was roaring and the dog didn't flinch a bit.

Pretty awesome. Did I hear correctly that the same handler (the blonde woman) has won Best in Show previously?

I thought that point was amazing. I was afraid that pekingnese was going to win. That thing looked very odd waddling around. That is definitely one where beauty is in the eye of beholder.

Hey, the golden retriever got porked again as usual

That was as beautiful a golden as I've ever seen at Westminster - I've owned them for over 30 years and he was absolutely classic!

Of course, given their health issues from overbreeding because of their popularity, it's probably just as well, I guess...

Wink

Crafty,
If it's any consolation... my daughter says this all the time...

"There are Golden Retrievers, and then, there are just dogs."

My cousin Michelle breeds Irish Setters. Her dog Fonzie won best of breed for Setters and came in 2nd for group for sporting dogsa at Westminster 2005. The dog that beat hers was the German Pointer. That dog was the overall winner. We are all very proud of Shelly and Fonzie.

Duke...you should be proud of her and Fonzi, that is a beautiful animal.

The golden that came in 4th...is very closely related to my dog. Mine wasn't "picked" from the litter for show, she was the leftover and was picked from the litter by me to be a friend.

Frankly I can't imagine doing all that must need to be done to get to a show like that....seems excessive to me.

Congratulations to your cousin, Duke - Fonzie was a terrific setter and you all have plenty to be proud of - that's quite an accomplishment for the both of them!

Great photo!

Sandman - Personally, I think the ones you pick for friends are pretty special - and the ones you always remember.

I am a big fan of the recycled dogs. I have three dogs and all are 'rescued' dogs.

I got 2 from an internet adoption and one from the Boston Animal Rescue League in Pembroke, MA.

All dogs are great dogs. Even though two of my dogs are prue bred (Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a Saint Bernard), I am a big fan of the mutt. My middle sized dog is a mutt and she is great. My last dog (who passed away 2 years ago) was a mutt, and he was the best dog I have ever owned.
