The Pope Sure Is A Tough Guy...
It takes a tough man to live through Nazi and communist oppression, oversee an empire, and endure chronic illness while remaining a public figure.
84 years old. I should be so lucky to live that long.
I'm not a Catholic, but I will say a prayer for that courageous man.

I agree Ben. He was a freedom fighter in the underground during WWII in Poland. Good Polish stock and a good man. If he goes he will be well rewarded.

Why even try.........

He'll be regarded as one of the greatest Popes in history and one of the giants on the world stage during the last half of the 20th century. He was seen as such a threat to the forces of tyrrany that Yuri Andropov ordered his assassination.
He is a brilliant man, fluent in almost a dozen languages, author of books, a poet, a man who fought for freedom, a man who led an active life, and now a man who's showing us how a real man faces death. I left the Church years ago, but I admire this Pope and just hope, for the billion Catholics around the world, his successor can measure up to those huge shoes he has to fill.

He has had a sustained temp of 104. That would be tough for a healthy person to overcome.

He had as much and probably far more to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union than Reagan did. And that will only be one of his many legacies....

I doubt he'll live out the day. There are throngs gathered in St Peter's Square now. Apparently his kidneys have failed and it's just a matter of time. I hope they're keeping him pain-free.
