Blonde jokes that is, but I'm having second thoughts. I went on a cruise last week and was walking around at the port of Progresso, Mexico with a cold Sol cervesa and my 9 year old checking out the duty free shops, when I hear someone behind me say, "Hey, I'm from there." I didn't give it a second thought, then she said it again a little more forceful, "HEY, I SAID I'M FROM THERE!" This time I turned around to see a very blonde woman pointing at the Cape Pond Ice hat my wife had given me for Xmas. "I was just telling you I'm from the place you have on your hat, Gloucester...in Rhode Island, right?" she asked
I said, "Isn't it spelled G-l-o-c-e-s-t-e-r that's in Rhode Island? Gloucester is in Massachusettes."
She got a funny look on her face and said, "You mean there's a Gloucester, Massachusettes, too? I didn't know that."
I said, "Did you see, 'The Perfect Storm' with George Clooney and his deckhand Bugsy who wears the Cape Pond Ice hat and shirt in the movie?"
Blank stare...."How about Rudyard Kipling and 'Captains Courageous'?"
She's totally stumped now, but I gave it one last shot, "America's oldest fishing port? Doesn't ring a bell either?"
I could see I was making no progress at all, but speaking with a woman half my age wearing a snug tank top and no bra is not something that happens to me very often, so I stretched one more time, "Well to answer your question, no it's not the same place where you live, but you should really visit sometime and while you're at it, you better ease up on that scorpion tequila, it can cause permanent brain damage, possibly even blondeness."
I could hear the gears turning, but I left before she could respond.
