fire line problem

I was trying out my new set up in a undisclosed location this evening and I was disapointed. I was using 50# fireline and I kept getting tangles every 3rd cast. Was was I doing wrong. I thought this stuff was the cats arse. Please help.

I thought of the lure weight. I was using a 5 inch habs wooden needle. Mabey it was to light?

I also wondered if a has too much line spooled on. It looks ok though. Penn 650ss

50 lb fireline is like cable try goin down to 30 or even 20lb.

also needle fish are the most braid unfriendly lure that there is.the reason being they retrive with almost no resistance an lay the line on the spool soft.when u cast out the line digs into the loose wrappings from the previous cast an pulls out a loop from several wraps in thats how u get notted up.Some guys will hold the line on the retrieve apply some tension with their fingertips so it don't lay too soft othere we'll use mono for needle's.

great info

I set up the 50# for bombing the cape cod canal. I have a lighter set up I use as well. Thanks for the tip on needle fish.
