Wire line trolling

Yesterday I took some time to peel off thirty or fourty yards of wire from my trolling rig and found a kink - one that I probably could have lived with but I cut it out anyway. I spliced in a low profile swivel using haywire twists on either side. I only just started working with wire and was looking for any tips for making these connections easier or better - especially getting the tag end folded in tight to the running line. I also am not sure if I got the haywire twist down right - I just looped the wire through the eye of the swivel and wrapped six or eight turns around the running line tight...

Any suggestions or comments would be welcomed.

i dont know much about wire, except that you better watch your thumb every time you let that line out.

bend wire when you are done so you don't have a sharp tag.

Dacron

Would you use the dacron to splice two sections of wire? (re: post from thefishingfreak)

yes.
the dacron is to splice. i use about two feet and the wire is measured 100' sections. plus you can jig the dacron at the rod tip with less worry about kinking the wire.
50# wire and 100# dacron.
different color dacron to mark different depths.

Cool. I can't imagine a way to make a smoother splice. I will definitely try this.
