Season Plans
Every Friday (OK, most Friday's ) we have the "Weekend Plans" thread. But with the holderover fish now coming out to the spring haunts, this is as good of a time as any to talk about your season plans...
What do you want to do different this year?
What do you want to do more of the same?
Do you have a goal of where to fish or how many to release or size?
Me, I want to have some more fun, get my family involved more, but also do some more productive fishing at more productive times.
And I want to fish Cuttyhunk and Block again. And of course, The Derby
So what's up for the Season??

Fish for Pike, 1/2 mile
Fish for Trout, 5 miles
Fish for Bass, 15 miles
Fish for Striped ones as much as I can, it's 200 miles each way.
Test the plugs I made this winter on fish.
Release most everything.

Be good. Not lie to my wife about being sick so that when she drives out the driveway to go to work I won't have to sneak out and hitch the skiff onto the truck and then get back before she comes home to ask if I feel any better. I have run out of reasons why I got such a sunburn while being sick in bed for the day.
Fish the boat more. Fish the beach only when moon, tide and mung conditions are in harmony.
Fish with eels again after a two year hiatus. ( needles catch but eels really do catch better)
Stay out of the "plug wars"
Fish some different locals like maybe......RHODE ISLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Why even try.........

Can't wait to get started
Starting in the tagging program this year, I'm pretty excited about it. Looking to go over the 250+(have to supass last year's catch by 75 fish) mark this year tagged and realeased. The only ones I keep are bleeders or a fish I don't think has a good chance of surviving.
Maybe have a couple while I'm pursuing my fish.
Start night slingin' instead of just chunking.
Need to catch a tuna(I don't care how big it is, yet)
Get more dives in this year and hopefully get myself a underwater camera.
By the way if any of you guys fish the North Shore I go out more than half the time solo, I could always use a little help setting anchor , long as you don't mind getting out there before everyone else.

Fish a lot more in R.Ii and catch my first 30lb fish off the beach, of course. Start plugging the cape more instead of going straight to eels, I gotta show redlite you can catch a fish on a plug....

I'll be fishing much less this year got a few classes I need to finish up so I can get more dough back to school in June.... uke wretch puke:
Block, Cutty, Vineyard, OuterCape, Cali
Are on the hit list this year. I'd also like to land a striper on a fly I tied. I'm about as graceful as a bull in a china shop with a 9wt though, I'll probably end up snappin it and tossin it in the dumpster... we'll burn that bridge when we get to it... Working 12 days in october, debating making a 5 day work month.. not sure yet...

that's my dilemma.
i'd like to:
stick to the matunuck, gansett, jamestown areas for the whole season.
get a 30 on a plug
get another 20 on topwater(most rewarding fish of last season)
get Joe to take me fishing

Good thread! I have given this a lot of thought over the winter.
I want to perfect my boat fishing skills in methods that I know work but I tend to avoid using. To name a few tube and worm, deep vertical buck-tailing, trolling bunker spoons. Also, going to rig up a couple lead trolling lines this year.
From the shore, I plan to focus my fishing time on spots I really know. I have done so much exporing the last few years I feel I missed out on some prime action. I also plan to do a lot more plug fishing and a little less eeling...try and get back to my plug/eel ratio of 70/30.
Fly rod. I am going to put my foot in the sw fly rod game. (this could be an adventure)
Nantucket flats....I am going to make several sight fishing trips there this season.
Like last season, BI, CH trips already being discussed.
Derby: I will fish it but I plan to take a more relaxed position and not get so worked up. (we'll see ) I tend to do much better when I just fish and not power-fish this event.
Also, Would like to host a sb.com derby gathering at my house for those that make the trip over and fish the derby some week...need to talk to JohnR, already got the OK from the wife. (Thinking afternoon BBQ leading to some evening surf fishing but I am up for suggestions if anyone is interested )
Fluke, will try agian to get someone from my family the state derby board. We fish real hard for big fluke. Developed some ***really*** sweet rigs this year (sorry, can't show you: top secret...after the season is over )
Tog...I AM GOING TO GO TOG FISHING THIS YEAR...(the last few years I didn't even go... )
Lastly, Tuna on light spinning gear...I have got to get out there and do that again this summer!
Can't wait for 50 deg water temps.

fish as much as I can....this year will be tougher because of my kids..
I will be doing a commando trip to Cuttyhunk this year....
Get at least 1 of my friends to try fishing, get my brother to go pluggin with me one morning...
Get my Dad to take the boat over to the Race.....
I will have to choose my times wisely.....but I will make them count!!!
I would love to fish with more guys from this board...maybe I can make some of the 4 legs....

Get the hang of surfcasting w/a conventional.
Maintain a fishing log.
Learn to rig dead baitfish better.
Not just cast to, but catch a schoolie tuna.
Keep telling the wife "nothing brings us closer together than time apart"
Take the boys fishing more.

I bought a new kayak this year so I am going to start to do a lot of kayak fishing again. I used to do this but that was 10 years ago, before kids.
Also, I will move around some more and fish some other areas that I have not previously had the time to.

I feel like I am in the movie Office Space. I am trying to get fired, but haven't been successful so far. Hope to take the summer off and do some serious fishing. If I can't get canned, without going to jail in the process, look for a boat at the end of the season.

I plan to fish at least three times a week plus I have all these trips
booked in the end of August I start to drive on PLum Island until the
end of October I also drive down to So.Co. and fish the rocky shore
and breachways until the end of November.
he week of May 15th Chatham to fish for stripers and blue fish that just arrived
Memorial day 5/29/05 weekend fishing the Cinder Worm hatch with Bob Hines
The week of June 25th to July 2nd Block Island (I consider this the trip of a life time) Joe Lyons is meeting me there to show me around
The week of July 30th to August 6th Salisbury State Reservation
August 22nd & 23rd Race Point Light House for free we were invited by the last years light house keeper to share there free time there.
and finally October 2nd to the 8th Race Point Light House for the first of fall run fishing
It was really tough telling my new boss that I needed all that time off in the interview but I have all these paid for some for all most 8 months now. it didn't really seem to faze him and he told me I would get paid vacation after 90 days.

And watch my 10 year old catch his first 50.
Not necessarily in that order.
