What do you do?

Went out this morning in the rain to an un-named overused spot. Had to leave because this guy kept sliding stripers down the rocks into the water. Told him twice about it and he kept doing it. Before I left I asked him if it would hurt if I slide him down the rocks.

He had 2 kids with him, about 5 and 8, I told him it was great to teach your kids how to fish, but you are missing half the lesson. Teach them about conservation. His kids where catching fish and he wasn't even helping them. If they were my kids, I'd put down my rod and enjoy myself helping the kids. The kids where unhooking their fish and dropping them inside the rocks (after stepping on them). I don't think I'll go back there, too many idiots, I don't deal well with idiots. Fish or not.

What do you do in this situation?

I'd push him in the water and then step on his rod. Then I'd say SORRY!!!

I don't know, Chief - I think you did as much as you could with the imbecile - good for you for doing the right thing and speaking to him about.

And maybe his kids learned something about conservation and sportsmanship from you - in spite of their father.

Regardless of what we'd all like to do with a jerk like that, you did the best thing you could in the situation without an assault charge as a thank you.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know the spot you're talking about too

Take a joy ride on the USS Massachussets. I'd venture a guess those 16" guns still work

Nothin more you could do NC.Ya diid the right thing by speaking up,anything further then that would only mean lawsuite ,and just as bad ,two kids with a bad memory of a fight rather then a day of fishing. Unfortunately, there are always a few who don't get it. But ,what goes around comes around.

I would have started throwing rocks in the water just to annoy him. Then when he complained I'd let him know my thoughts.

This kind of completes my day... lot of memories of my buddy Bill today, shared with those of us that knew him well... then I read this, and another memory of him comes rushing to mind. Same scenario, only theres 2 of us and one moron dad and his 2 kids... he's showing the kids how to "punt" the schoolies back into the water..... me, I'm all pissed.. he just goes over the next time one of the kids catches...
"Hello young man, let me help you with that... nice fish, Oh, Hi Dad, you don't mind if I help do ya?... Nice fish, there, I'm gonna unhook him easy, see how ya hold 'em, now, I'm gonna slide him back in easy, ya know, so he can grow up real big, and you can catch him again... RIGHT DAD??? "
All the time a big smile, and real friendly... I was drop jawed and so was dad...... it worked, the next schoolie they had, they're all careful with the fish, and nice and easy on the release... That was Bill.... he was a firm believer in catching more flies with honey, than vinegar......

Not much else you could do!

Navy Chief,
You really could not treat him like a brain dead swabby. Those days are gone. Think you did the best possible thing available at the time.
