West End / South Wind

Yes, it was another fine fall day on the water today. The Eiders and Scoters were flying, the stripers were biting.... wait! isnt it still spring?

Lots of fish working bait out there.(and one seal working the fish) Started about 7am and caught fish until around 9am. Two keepers. Kept one for the grill. Lots of smaller fish.

Then the wind came up. Damm that Southwest wind. SeaBass, if you went out around 11am it must have been blowing. Hope you have a dry boat.

I was out about 9:30 -11:30 this morning but more towards Bird Is. Nothing but a cold SW wind. The 5-10 MPH must have been pretty early.

Herring? PLugs? or worms?

It was tolerable until about 9am. Then the temp dropped and the wind picked up. The fish seemed to all go deep after that. I was pretty much along the west side of the marked shipping channel.

I was using rubber shads and a Spro bucktail. Wanted to try a topwater plug but I was doing ok with what I had on and didnt want to stop.....

Anyone know what they are feeding on this time of year? Terns were flying away with 1-2" silver somethings......silversides? sandeels perhaps?

Haven't seen any baitfish in Wareham River yet...I had tried sandeels yesterday along with plugs..wish I could have had live herring but it may be an early close season for them.
Your 20 ' Aquasport and 115 Johnson is a Great Combo..quick in and out when the weather turns..

There seems to be alot of bait, ie. sandeels, around Mashnee Flats and the west end of the canal. I suspect there is alot around Onset and the Maritme Academy but I havnt checked it out yet. I havnt seen any in the Wareham River either. As far as herring, I keep thinking that it would be nice to have some too until I drove by the line at the Elks club on the way home. A $3 bag of rubber shads and a keeper in the boat sure beats the hassle. I would like to get into some bigger fish though..................
Keep on plugin'........
What do you fish out of Lt.?

SGT:
Stopped at the local baitshop and picked up rubber shads last week and may try a little shore fishing until the boat weather improves. I'm in a 24" Searay Leguna Cuddy
w/250 Merc.
