Lost my Dad

I posted @ a month ago that my Dad took a turn for the worse, cancer spread to the liver and there was nothing the Docs could do.
My Dad died Tuesday morning. Prior to cancer, he was the healthiest guy I ever knew, ran, swam, biked ate all the right things. 64 is way to young to go.
He was a great father and friend and gave me gifts and knowledge I can never fully realize. The best gift was the appreciation for the ocean, fish and the outdoors. I will miss him every day of my life. He and my Mom have been married for 42 years. My sister and I have been focusing on her.
YOu guys will never know him, but I know you can appreciiate him as a fisherman. He never talked much to other guys, would have disagreed with most of what gets posted on these boards. He believed in eels, jigs, redfins and flies on a wooden egg. The rest he thought was all hype. I finally scanned a few of his pics, these fish weighed 45lbs and and 51lbs. Both caught in SoCo in a "non" secret spot, easy access, and yet usually empty when I fish there. I hope I can be half the Dad he was. He will live on in my thoughts and memory and every fish I ever catch will be for him. He would be pissed that I posted this but its a small tribute to a great guy.

RIJimmy....I knew you were going through this with your Dad from your earlier thread....I offer to you and your family my deepest and heartfelt condolences. Take it from one who knows....(my Dad is gone just over 4 years now)....it will be very difficult at times for awhile.....I had occasions the first couple of years where a certain song, or smell or a memory would drift into my mind and trigger a few tears from time to time....but I realized that that was all good....to remember all the things about my Dad, even the very small and minute will get you through my friend. You are right about focusing on your Mom....be strong for her at this time and always be there for her......I know you will. Take care and give yourself time to grieve.

Best,
BigFish

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

My heartfelt sympaties go out to you and your family. This story brought a tear to my eyes and I now need to go call my dad who lives far away, god I miss him. I have a couple of friends who haven't spoken to their fathers in many years and I just can't understand this for the life of me. I guess we've been blessed to have such great fathers and roll models in our lives. God Bless!

I'm sorry for the loss of your father, he was a great guy and a great inspiration for you.

I think I know how you are feeling as I lost my dad about 3 years ago at this time. It does get a bit easier.

RIJimmy, I am truley saddened by this and my deepest condolences go out to you and your family. You're right in that most of us will never know the great person that he was, but maybe some may know the true sportsman that he was as his sportsmans spirit lives on in you.
