Another Boating Misadventure

Today I took the family to the Race Point beachs for just a day in the sun. We were parked near Hatches Harbor having a few grilled burgers when I see a Grady-White Walkaround (about 23 feet) under full power heading for the beach. The bow is high in the air and a passenger is standing in the bow (moving weight forward I presumed).

The boat powers all the way UP AND INTO Hatches Harbor. Luckily the tide was half-up and flooding. He spins the boat around and a passanger jumps off and he is holding a stern line and bringing the stern up on the beach. The boat is obviously taking on water.

Then I see the Coasties in a ridged-hull inflatable and blue lights flashing heading for the Hatches Habor. I grabbed my portable VHF out of my truck to listen in (this had to be good). Since the guy isn't going to sink (not with his stern beached), the Coasties just waited outside until the tow can come in from P-town.

All the while I'm listening on the CC channel and the guy has no idea why he was taking on so much water. The tow guy finally shows up, they pump the bilge, and guess what? The seacock was open.

I then learn that the guy had run all the way down from Plymouth. Now that's a way to ruin the day.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
