Mono Leader Material
I just ordered a new type of leader material call Triple Fish in the 60lb flavor. I was just curious how it stands up Vs. The competition Trilene Big game and Stren High Impact???

I use the Berkely Big Game almost religously. Crafty & Iron Mike were telling me of a new Flourocarbon that I should try. Forgot the name though...

I use Seagar 30# fluro for most of my striper fishing and have been very happy with it. The Yamamoto pro-staffer I fished with last time down at the river, said the new Sten fluro is the best he's ever fished with. Keeping in mind he added that he has always hated Stren, it might be worth checking out, especially anyone looking to spool up in bulk for Albies or the like.

I use varoius leader material---Big Game, Stren Hi-Impact and Triplefish. I tried flourocarbon, and founf that in the places I fish, I can't justify spenfing more as the results don't seem to be any greater than with regular mono leader.

I have used 30 or 50 lb Ande pink (30 0n the beach , 50 at the Ditch) as my leader material for over 25 years. It never lets you down if you periodically check for wear. I have only ever tried Stren Flouro and it was useless in the Ditch. I hope the "new" stren flouro is better cause I used the "old" one night and then threw it in the trash the next day.
People say Seaguar is much better than the Stren Flouro I tried.

I tend to go with Saltheart here. I use 30# test Big Game as a minimum for a leader, Ande is good too. I once heard that flouro is very tough to tie as far as maintaining knot strength and I guess I don't fully trust myself yet with it.

John -
The flouro the Iron Man and myself were talking about is called Varivas in 50# - it's a better leader material than SeaGuar (although I do use SeaGuar 30#), seems to tie better and is more abrasion resistant. It's what I use all the time now for a 50# leader.
Of course it ain't cheap either , but then, none of 'em are.
The only place I've found it is at the Saltwater Edge here in Newport, but it may also be available elsewhere.

Big Game is good leader material. Its much more supple than Ande pink but IMO its not as wear resistant. Its very similar to Ande Green (maybe even more supple than the ande green too) Check it very often for wear. The other thing to note is that Big Game actually breaks near its rated pound test while Ande pink breaks well above its rated strength. If you use heavy BG or Ande , choose your knot carefully. If the leader is anywhere near the diameter of the running line , I like a blood knot. If you use a thin running line and a heavy leader , I like an Albright. With any heavy mono leader material , I think the knot is more important than the exact brand.
