There is an article in the food section today of the globe on striper fishing in Maine. Also a delicious smoked bluefish recipe that I'm sure clammer wants to try..

Is there some sort of strange slot limit in Maine that allows for keeping smaller bass?

I was a bit surprised and dissapointed to read the one guy talking about how much he likes to cook 22 inch striped bass on the grill all the time.

Why be dissapointed if its legal? There are millions of small bass around. I would be more dissapointed if he said he loved throwing a 22#er on the grill. Thats good breed stock.

I think it's one fish between 20"-26" and one trophy over 40".

As long as its legal it is fine with me, I just didn't realize they had a slot limit that allowed keeping fish that small up there.

I'm used to MA RI regs.

I read the article as well. One guy is quoted

" Last Night I had a 60 pound fish on my line, a real corker, longer than me and fat as one of those seals" .."I almost had it up on the pier but my pole broke, snapped right in two. I don't mind though. The night before I got a nice 22 incher"

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. First off how often do you hear about 60 lbers in Maine, or trying to pull a fish that size up on a pier. Not to mention being satisfied with a 22' fish from before.

ya I found that funny too, what kind of a fool would try and hoist a 60 pounder up a pier? fish stories will be fish stories I guess...
